no longer available for sale

Does anybody have any other information about this. I highly doubt that the blame can be shifted to Samsung anymore, what exactly is going on?

If it was the memory then they should slowly come available but it looks like they have been discontinued...

thats just tiger direct

though they are showing as pre-order on the english sites i buy from.

im just not sure, i dont think NV anticipated the demand for these cards, they had a hefty price premium but since when has that stopped anyone? i heard samsung just cant make the 1.1ns 64mb chips fast enough, or reliably enough.

the G70 has been around a fair length of time, so i think its fair to say that they shouldnt be having problems making the GPU's. maybe its linked to what ATI said

remember the powerpoint pres where they siad the GTX 512 would fail in xxxx hours because they overvolted the core to get it to reach 550mhz? maybe that was true....hence no more cards?

I think there just on back order, because I got this directly from EVGA's website today.

Its a supply issue. Do you think NV doesn't want to sell $1400 to SLI lovers everywhere?

IIRC Samsung is having trouble meeting demand for the mem chips. But I could be wrong.

This is exactly what MSI told citrusmicro.com with whom I had an order for a MSI 7800GTX512. After a few initial shipment, they basically said, we have no ETA when you'll get more or if there will even be any more. I waited for more than 2 weeks before he made me a deal on a x1800xt after hearing that news from their MSI rep.

I think the trick is to not wait for this card. Just get yourself 2x 7800GT's and a nice SLI mobo. Should cost about the same as the GTX512 and faster. No telling if it is 100% Samsung issue producing this memory or are there other things going on here. Maybe Nvidia just released the 512GTX to retain the speed crown just long enough to stockpile memory for G71. I don't know, just blathering. To bad about the 512 though. Maybe we will see a few more for sale here and there.

Where are the people who harped about ATi releasing a "Press Edition" card? They should be saying the same thing about this card. Doesnt look like the same people are doing that though. Funny that.

^^

Let them keep their $750 card. Get a faster solution today. And if you plan it right, you can get CoD2 free with both cards, making it a faster, cheaper, and better deal considering the free games.

I registered for evga's step-up program on the first day (within a couple of hours of the part going live on their site), and I assure you, it doesn't look good for evga either. They still list the part, but refuse to give anyone in the step-up queue an ETA. This is definitely shaping up to be Nvidia's own "Phantom Edition" part. (shhhh! No one tell Rollo I said that!)

Maybe they are looking for XT master cards?

Just because everyone knows their coming doesn't mean they've been released by ATI, I don't think ATI has even announced the X1800 series crossfire will exist (even though we all know it will).

So is it a paper launch if it's available on day 1 but not on day 10? I'm just curious now. ;)

<tin foil hat> they are hording the best chips so they can then release the 7800 Ultra so folks who bough 7800 GTX 256mb SLI and then GTX 512mb SLI can do it all again except at $900 a pop! Also NForce 4 32 will be re-released with Soundstorm 4 after everyone has upgraded as well!</tin foil hat> ;)

Odd that these cards are really selling as well as they are. I'm certainly impressed by the performance, but I haven't even considered getting one. Dual GTX 256's or GT's makes way more sense than a single GTX 512. Dual 512's...? Well, with R580 and G71 supposedly right around the corner the GTX 512 dual or single isn't really a good option.

Wow! Good post!
One vendor drops one brand, so that must mean the whole product line has been cancelled!

LOL

The Cadillac dealer in Madison stopped selling Buicks- they must not exist anymore!

Why? What if he has to wait another month..

Granted the 512GTX is a AWESOME card, if he needs one now, you gotta get what you can get..

IF my x1800xt overclocked, I would love it, since it does not, I don't give it that much love :p

Hmmm. Well, lets ask him. nts, were you just inquiring about it rather than making any definite statements?

Sorry Thug, I couldn't resist. :D

I have already given up on waiting for my 512MB GTX to come; I am probably just going to grab the refresh version of the 7800..
well.. have to settle with low/medium settings for a while with a single 7800GT.

Yes as I asked, "Does anyone have any other information about this?". Sorry if the title of the post was misleading. I'll add a disclaimer next time :p

Just wondering why a vendor would drop the card if they are so in demand and everybody wants them. Wasn't XFX the first out with the cards, did they hit their allocation limit (how many units)?

Rollo what does your contact say about it?

hhhmmn. Good point nts. Perhaps the contact would be more forth coming on such shortages so Rollo could inform us quicker.

Looks like another case of Kardma.

NVIDIA hard launches it's Flagship only to be left sitting in drydock waiting for it's precious 1.1ns sails. Meanwhile, the compitition sails away with the sales.

Now where's my Buick? ;)

hehe. slightly off topic, but GM just laid off about 30,000 employees and closed numerous plants. Oldsmobile went the way of the dodo, and buick may just be next!!!
Sorry for the OT ;)

I just wish there was a definitive way to see who is passing the buck properly here.
Nvidia maintains its GTX512 shortage is attributed to Samsungs 1.1ns memory production.
Samsung is livid over this, which means what? Nvidia partners are honked off. I have a question about the memory distribution however. Do nvidia partners receive the memory modules directly from Samsung? Or does all the memory first go to nvidia and then nvidia distributes the memory to the partners?

I would think nvidia only sells the GPU's and gives the reference design to the partners, and the partners buy their own memory directly from the manufacturer.

As far as I know Nvidia has issued no comments regarding the limited supply of 512MB GTXs.
