7800GT PCI-e vs. X850XT AGP?

I'm going to buy one of these cards. My 9800pro does not cut it with FEAR and Q4. I have an AMD 64 3200+ (754) which limits my mobo choices and future upgradeability. I found an ASUS mobo for about $90 at newegg. The cards cost about the same. Is it worth $90 to go for the 7800GT? Is the 7800GT really that much better? Thanks for your help.

I'd say go for the 7800GT. You might wan't to consider getting the DFI NF4 4x Infinity mobo. It's only $75 at newegg. Just built a computer for a friend using that board and it turned out to be a great board. Overclocks great. Got a Sempron 64 2800+ (1.6ghz) oc'ed to 2.4ghz with the stock heatsink. P95 stable for days and <50c.

For FEAR and Q4 the 7800GT is the better card. In other games the X850XT will be just as fast if not faster (HL2, FarCry, UT2004, etc). I'd probably go with the 7800GT if you can find a good deal. If $$ is an issue than stick with AGP for awhile and run the X850XT as it's a great card. After going from X850XT PE to 7800GTX I didn't notice any difference in the games I mentioned above. I'm sure OpenGL games would see a big difference though.

Whats TAP insurance? Is that where you say there is something wrong with your card(when there isnt) then commit fraud by filing a claim?

If so, way to go! If I knew your name I would let Compusa know ahead of time that your coming to commit fraud.

It's not fraud. They told me when I bought the plan that I could bring the card back at any time during the coverage (2 yrs) and they would either replace it or give me store credit for the purchase price "no questions asked". The plan was $50. I'm nearing the end of my two year coverage so I was going to return it for my store credit. I'm just doing what they said I could do.

Besides, wouldn't they test it to see if I was lying anyway?

How about this, tell them there is nothing wrong with it when you turn it in. Although they say no questions asked, I'm sure someone is going to ask for a reason, be honest and tell them it isn't fast enough anymore.

I read the TAP.pdf, it's an insurance plan incase anything has gone wrong with the product itself. Not if the product can't keep up with today's games or has gone out of style.

But hey, if you want to commit fraud then help yourself, heck keep repeating to yourself that they said "no questions asked" even when you know what they meant.

That is what the salesman told me. He said "you should buy the insurance plan, if any thing goes wrong with the card, we'll replace it or even if nothing goes wrong you can return it for store credit at the end of the plan." I said "that?s a great deal, so I can't lose either way?" He said ?yeah?. Now, if your right and the salesman was lying to me to get me to buy a warranty, then of course I will not lie and say that it is broken. (Again, wouldn't they test it anyway?) However, I will inform them of what I was told and what I thought I was paying for. If I thought I was going to commit fraud, I certainly wouldn't advertise it here for all to see. I bought a warranty for a car stereo before and they said if I never used it, I would receive store credit for the price of the warrantee. I thought this was the same kind of thing. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong.
