ok guys..
put together a system from the FS/FT section here.

eVGA 7800GT CO
ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe
A64 3700+
2 gigs of Samsung 3200 DDR400 ECC (known good ram from my stash)
Antec 500 watt true power (brand new yesterday)
Zalman cooler for the CPU
81.98 drivers brand new install

System boots and runs fine in 2D mode..
very fast no conflicts
when running 3Dmark05 for the first time makes it about 1 min into the shootout demo and then artifacts its ass off to the point that the screen goes to garbage.
then corrupts windows behind it casuing a reboot.

same thing with the Nvdia 7800 Demo...

is this the card? or somethign else going on?

the card is staying very cool to touch case was running open during system build and card stayed cool to touch and fan was running.. it is using the stock CO cooler..

need help/advice cards previous owner has already told me to send it back and ill get my cash back. want to make sure this is not the card before I send it back..
he said he tested it before he sent to me and it was working.

Before the minute is up and your computer crashes, what temps you getting on the video card?
This could be any number of problems, video card, PSU, mobo, driver, etc.

First things first, download these drivers and see if it fixes the problem. Cause if it's software related, it's easy to fix.

Also, like I said before the temps on the video card would be nice, maby the cooler needs a reseat?

well the PC is not crashing... the vid is artifacting/spazzing out to the point you cant read anything so you have to reboot to get vid back..

the Power supply is brand new bought yesterday for this system
the card is on a PCIexpress power connector by itself on its own rail.

as for card temps there is no way to get it.. as windows vid is unusable after the artifacts...
and what software should you use to get accurate temps anyway?

I dont see a way to check it..
where in rivatuner or other software is it?

if it was MB related i would be having video problems across the 2d/3d but 2d is flawless..

i dunno.. this is exactly why i bought the new PS yesteday to make sure it had enough power.

oh yah this cooler has never been off the card... i wouldnt know where to begin to take it off..
would be a little afraid of messing up a card to mess with it. so i never do usually..

You can create a log with NVMonitor (part of NTune). It will log the temps of CPU, GFX and MB for any set interval.
Your problems do seem like it's the heatsink on your gfx card that needs reseating. Maybe there was a significant shock during transport to your home? Since reseating it would void your warranty, I'd suggest just RMAing it.

But wouldn't buying it off of someone viod the original warrenty? So he has no warrenty since he bought it off of someone in FS/FT?

Anyway, yes log the temps and get back to us.

well its an EVGA so yes you can remove the heatsink without voiding.

ok.. went and got a zalman cooler for it just to be sure...
removed the old cooler.. there was like no old coolant on the chip... it looks like it had been off before...

temps with zalman are 44 idle.. 77 when it artifacted and fvcked up... system does not crash or lock.. just grafics issues..

guess this card is really hosed...

any other sugestions?
