7800GT needs to be upgraded

I have had my 7800GT for 3 years now and it is time to upgrade. I don't really have time for many games right now, but when I do play I usually only play WoW. It still runs with a decent framerate but at 1920x1200 it struggles sometimes, especially if I want to turn on any eye candy.

I don't need anything crazy obviously. I want to spend as little as possible but notice the upgrade. Under $200 would be great. I was wondering if the 8600GT would be an upgrade or if I would need to go to the 8800GT range. Any suggestions?

you should wait for the 9600GT this month...if thats any good, get that. if not, stick with an 8800GT.

8600 is not an upgrade, its a waste of money.

8800GS or 8800GT 256 are the cards for your budget.

Yeah a 8800GT would suit you fine, there is a sale on Newegg (lasts until today I think), a Zotac 8800GT 512MB for just 229$.

When I got my 7800GT it was an EVGA and I (almost) immediately upgraded it to a 7900GTX through their trade-in program.

Nowadays I'd recommend an 8800GT or better.

Same here, I'm still on my 7800gt waiting to upgrade it. Perhaps a 9600gt, or whenever nvidia or ati come out with a new highend that's single core. Was that supposed to be sometime in the summer or something?

Yup. I had one and I can testify the above statement is true. It's way overpriced for what it is. At its price range, HD 3850 beats the crap out of it in every possible way.

I'd also recommend 8800 GT, but 512MB variant. The price difference isn't enough to sacrifice the chunk of potential performance difference.

You might want to look into 3850. Pretty cheap and performs twice as fast as 7800gt.

I wouldnt upgrade only to get some more eye candy in a game you don't have all that much time to play..
