Want to do one final video card upgrade before I change systems. Is a 7800GS a good match to an AthlonXP running at 2.2 ghz?

I'd grab the X1950 Pro personally, but the GS is ok. You can almost grab a socket 939 PCI-E board and single-core CPU for the price premium of getting the AGP version of the card, though. You could then keep your DDR and not be as CPU-bottlenecked as you will be with an XP.

I was thinking about getting the x1950 pro as an alternative. But when I saw the 7800gs on sale for 120 AR after shipping and tax, I just pulled the trigger. Now, I'm wondering if it's a good match after the fact, LOL.

I'm planning on upgrading to a faster system when I have time to do a build, install, and move over all my programs and data. Just want something to tide me over for now.

I have a 6800GS@570/1350 and i find my 2.1Ghz AXp really holds me back :(

(But bear in mind my AXp is on an ancient Via KT400 chipset, with 1.5GB single channel RAM @167:eek:)

Hmm.. I guess that good in that I didn't over purchase then. Since the 7800gs won't be moving with me to my next computer.

For $120AR that's an excellent deal. I was looking at newegg prices(~$199). Have fun with it. :)

I thought the price was pretty good too. At least for AGP, and thanks!
