Hey guys, i got my new graphics card just over a month ago (7800gs 512mb AGP) Since i have had the card my computer has been freezing randomly when i play games, but only now is it doing every time i play a game. I got a message popup on my desktop few days ago just after i restarted my system telling me about the VGA memory but it disappeared to quickly for me to read it all.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

tried updating mobo,Direct X, drivers also tried reconnecting graphics card.

Cheers.

Most likely problem by far is your power supply not giving the card enough juice when it kicks into 3D mode & increases clockspeeds.

What model & wattage power supply do you have & most importantly what is the amp-rating on the +12v rail?

i'm at college at the moment but im pretty sure i have a Enermax 450W PSU :). but surely if it was the PSU it would just shut down and not freeze my whole system?.

Not having enough power on the +12v rail could easily do exactly what you described... in fact as I said I'd guess thats the most likely culprit. Both the CPU & the GPU in a modern PC rely heavily on +12v & although enermax makes decent power supplies, depending on the other components in your system a 450 watt unit is likely right at the edge of being strong enough, especially if its a couple years old because power output drops over time.

What other components do you have in your system?

If this truly is an AGP video card, you may need to update or reinstall the GART driver for the AGP bus on the motherboard.

Most times poor performance after an upgrade or reinstallation is caused by that.

Let us know if that helps.
