ok guys, i just got in a new evga 7800GT card last night. I went to go benchmark it and i was getting 1050 in 3dmark2005. I was like what the heck. I went to go to the manual to see if i installed it wrong and i had. I thought the whole purpose of the PCI-E interface was to provide enough power to video cards without having to plug in an external power but i was wrong. So i pluged in the power connector to the card and to the power. My Score immediatly raised to low 7000 range. I thought that was very very low. I went to overclock the card to 465mzh gpu /1.2ghz memory and i still only got about 7500 or so. Here is my hardware:

amd64 3800 x2 (overclock) 2.57ghz
asrock 939dual-sata2
2GB ddr ram
1 sata hitachi drive.

Does this have any thing to do with the thread affinity issue you think with the x2's?

no no 7000 sounds about right, though at 2.57Ghz i guess it should maybe be a little higher.

3D05 does actually become more dependant on CPU power as the scores increase, i saw nearly 1500-2000 gain just from ocing my 3200 venice to 2.6Ghz (i run 2.5Ghz now)

and i thought the EVGA card already had a heady overclock from the factory?

have you made sure your NF4 drivers are upto date? made sure you got the latest NV drivers? made sure that AA and AF arent turned on in the CP?

Not to mention if you want scores of 8000+ that core needs to be as high as it can go...

Hmm for some reason when i was browsing their DB last night i seen scores with around my system specs in the 13-15k range. I thought 6600gt cards were getting scores around my level. At least i thought. Ya my drivers are a Dec 05 build from nvidia. I didn't have AA/AF turned on in the drivers and since i only had the free version i couldn't turn it on with the program. The clock on my evga by default was 445mzh/1.07ghz.

7000 is right for a 7800gt. Anything more comes from overclocking. 10k is absolutely impossible for a 7800GT nevermind 13-15K!

thanks guys for the quick help. I thought it was about 7500 when i overclocked but i might be smoking crack :). I guess some of those scores i saw on their web site where probably foobar and thats what got me worried. Maybe it wasn't 05 that those scores where with but another version like 03. I don't know

Well guys i found the problem. I filtered by card type on thier DB but the people who were getting the high scores where SLI setups. It appears that there isn't a way to filter out SLI. At least that im aware of.

Well, I wouldn't say 10k is impossible 10,049. But your point is valid that with his stock cooler at those clocks he will get no where near 10k.

I'll just echo everyone else and say the score looks about right OP.

I scored ~9329 with a 7800GTX at 521core and 1414mem on a X2 4400+ at 2730 to give you an idea of score ranges. I am too lazy to provide a link but will if you really need it, LOL.

I was going to post that, but you apparently figured it out. There's no way to get more than 7-8K with a (single) stock 7800GT.

Also, please condense your sig; you CAN put more than one item on one line... or set up a rig page like many other posters use.

I've been getting right around 8000. Thats at 491/1170 with a Zalman 700cu. I'm happy. Can't wait to pick up another one though.
