First of all, the 6800 Ultra is way overpriced. Second of all, I think the 7800 GT is nearly as fast as the Ultra, if not faster. Any opinions?

You can get a 7800 GT for $399.

With the 6800GT so close to ultra specs, the 6800 Ultra was NEVER worth it imo and that still holds.

yup absolutely no use getting the Ultra since its still selling at $400+. X850XT/PEs are now hovering at the $300 - $350 mark making the Ultra useless.

its the other way around....the 7800GT outperforms the Ultra in all benchmarks and significantly in some.

if you have the dough the GT should be a good buy.

Some finer points to consider: 7800GT only uses 1 slot, cosumes less energy, generates less heat AND runs much much quieter. The added reduction in noise is worth at least $100 to me.

nvidia sucks....when it come to texture quality and when u enable anisotropic filtering. u will allways have to enable high quality mode to prevent that in the 6800 series and even then the 7800 series still suffers from that flickering.
here are some movies to show what iam talking bout.
ATi doesnt have this problem.

Umm for last time i check my Nvidia drivers does not have this High Performance -> High Quality Slider modes in the new drivers, so I am even wondering which drivers these guys are really using.

But I went from ATI to Nvidia and I leave every thing to Application Control and it works great and flicker only happen when VSYNC is off and it should be on, for example, in games like Doom3. But this happens on ATI cards too.

Back on topic now,

I find it hard to even buy a 6800GT when you can get a 7800GT for only 100 dollars more and you get 20%+ increase in speed.

dunno what driver they used.
but its annoying to see nvidia talk about higher/ increased performance, and when u look at it in detail it shows that they only get higher performance while reducing texture and image quality. i mean whos buying a 400-500$ graphic card and doesnt want to turn aa/af on..ahh, whatever ;)
