7800 gt on ATI board?

I picked this mobo out and then my brother said that the its an ATI board not a nVidia board. Does this matter? Will it not work/work not as good?

my brother also says from his experience ati chipset drivers suck. Would these drivers perform any worse than nforce drivers and if so in what?

The ATI XPRESS 200 and XPRESS 3200 chipsets perform just about identically to the NF4Ultra. Go read some reviews; they're all over the place.

And yes, both NVIDIA and ATI graphics cards work just fine on both companies' chipsets. They don't purposefully cripple the other company's cards or anything like that.

Standards for AGP and PCI-e are there just for that reason. They do not differ by chipsets/manufacturers. A graphics card that complies to the standards (AGP/PCI-e) will perform exactly the same on any board that also complies to the standards.

The ATI chipset driver on my MSI Radeon Express 200-based MB have been rock solid! I'm very happy with it.
