Okay, I have the 7800GT CO edition from eVGA, and it came with the little adapter that has the component jacks on it. How can I get my xbox360 to run on my PC monitor? Does the computerhave to be off? Or can I just switch between them?

Thanks

The component jacks are for video out, not video in. So you can use them to hook your 7800gt to a HDTV, but they won't work for hooking your console up to your 7800gt.

It'll look like crap, get the X360 VGA cable.

Just look at your monitor as a normal TV, but with different I/O interfaces, predominantly VGA and DVI. All you need is a power cable to power it on and the outputs from a given source plugged into the monitors I/O?s, in this case the xbox 360, now what i imagine you will need is this cable here. So you are basically just changing the I/O interface, from the standard HD cable to the VGA cable produced by xbox 360.

Could I switch between my PC and my xbox360 though? Or would my computer have to be off when i play the 360?

Does your monitor have two VGA inputs? If so, yes.

If not, you would need to put it through a video switcher/KVM, or swap the cables.

Or would my computer have to be off when i play the 360?

Why would you have to turn it off? Why not just unplug it from the monitor?

Your monitor will only be able to handle one signal transmission at a time and therefore only be able to display one signal at a time. If it has say 1 DVI and 1 VGA socket, you should be able to switch between the two sources even though they are both transmitting. This is dependant on whether you are using the DVI interface on your GFX card monitor setup. If you are using the VGA socket you most likely have to switch between the two sources, i.e. swap the cable over.

lets make it simple what monitor do you have ??

well its typically not recommended to unplug a computer monitor while the computer is on. I have never directly experienced any ill-fated problems from doing this, but I have heard of videocards, or at least the vga/dvi port involved, being fried.

I have the samsung 930b, which has 1 VGA and 1 DVI port. My 7800GT has 2 DVIs, and I'm running a straight DVI cable from video card to monitor.

So yeah, you have a free port for VGA and the cable RichUK linked will let you switch back and forth between the console and PC easly.
