looking for like an adjusted scientific comparison.

for those of you that do own a 290x reference. can you adjust the power tune parameters to 85C for temp and 40dbA for fan. then please share the heaven 4.0 score at 1080p extreme setting and the throttled gpu clock figure. if you have watt meter - wattage drop will be a bonus.

290x is power hungry and runs hot. Won't this mean that there isn't much headroom for OC? Does this mean we're getting a card that's essentially already OC'd?

And all these comparisons to the titan...isn't that like comparing the iphone 5 to the Samsung Galaxy S 3 (in other words comparing a recent generation to an old one)?

So, it's like saying, "Hey, this is a pretty average video card, but we turned up the voltage and clocks so we can beat the other guy's flagship card from last generation. Sure it's loud and hot, but this was the only way to match performance."

Am I horribly wrong somehow? I admit I don't know a whole lot on the subject. I'm pro AMD if anything, and I like the competition it fosters. But I'm afraid Nvidia's next offering will be superior and return us to horribly priced hardware... Just in time for me to build a new rig. ::sigh::

AMD smaller die beating Nvidia's bigger one
Few months ago nobody believed AMD could turn the tables and yet they beat the mighty TITAN, i say it's a engineering marvel, just needs a proper cooler
Die size really dont say much in the end. Its the transistors that do the work. I have seen Hawaii reported as having 6.2billion transistors. So while the die is a lot smaller than the gk110, when you look at the number of transistor, they are a lot closer. At 7.1billion, i would expect a full gk110 to be more powerful than the 290x. As long as nvidia is disabling parts, there are transistors and segments of the die which are doing nothing at all.

AMD has crammed a lot of transistors into that smaller die. The density is crazy. Its boggling. That is an amazing feat that needs to be recognized.

780Ti is

- faster
- less noise
- better cooling

AMD has always had inferior products. If you are poor, then buy 290x.

Please do not flamebait or troll on these forums. This kind of bashing and baiting is unacceptable.

Also, do not feed the trolls! Consider this a friendly warning to everyone.

Well he's right. And it seems like a pattern for AMD to develop a product then cheap out on manufacturing. I'm positive if they would have released this card at a higher price (30-50$), with a good cooler everybody's opinion would've been better.

That said you'll see what 290 can do with better drivers and 3rd party coolers.
