Heh... why don't you go undercover like those guys in that movie Sorority Boys. Dress-up like a chick and infiltrate!

...and get pics while you're in there.

i think your best bet is to trick it out of them. establish an internet site that looks all professional, offer a prize drawing exclusively for Kappa Deltas. to fill out the form they have to verify they are true members, questions like date of initiation, who initiated them, president of their chapter, secret motto, when kappa delta was established, whatever they learned during their initiation process. you could probably mail it to a bunch of people on the Kappa Delta mailing list and i'm sure a few are blond enough to fall for it.

although this borderlines with how much you want to know and how ethical you're willing to be. the line between this and setting up fake pages to collect credit card and other personal information can't be very far.

<< We do a lot of things with our sister-sorority and we are very supportive. One of the secrets in the Kappa Delta Sorority is the meaning of AOT. I still don't know the meaning and won't until initiation. I do know, however, that each pledge class can make AOT mean a specific thing to them. We have couches, rooms, a bathroom, and a kitchen in the house. Hazing is prohibited on the University's campus. Kappa Delta does not haze at all. We have rituals that happen when a sister, what we are called as a member of a sorority, gets engaged, married, pregnant, or is lavaliered. You have rose buddies, sisteres that help you out when you need them. Also, you have a big sister and you are a little sister. Your big sister spoils you for a week and then there is a scavenger hunt that leads you to your big sister. You make paddles and other stuff for them. >>

Getting stranger....

<< My boyfriend saw the letters AOT on a present I recieved from my chapter when I became an Alumna and he asked me what it meant. He is not a greek so he never knew we had secrets, and I did not tell him because I knew it would bother him that I had a secret that he could never know. Well I was right he tried to guess and I told him it meant Apples Oranges and Tomatoes. It's this AOT secret even more great when you know that we are the only ones who actually know what it means and live to fulfill its' meaning. >>

She wears a K for Kindness in her heart
She wears an A for ability
She wears a double P for peppiness
She wears an A for AOT, for AOT,
She wears a D for delight in all she does
She wears an E for efficiency, efficiency,
She wears an LTA for love to all. Love to all,
She's a real KD!

This is exactly why I wouldn't want to date a "greek" girl and why I was so p!ssed when my gf who originally told me she was so mad at a bad experience she had that she would now not consider joining a sorority suddenly renegged on that decision....although she later again decided not to bother pledging.

I don't think a couple should keep secrets from each other. It's especially frustrating that whoever wrote this isn't keeping it from her bf because it's some deep, dark thing, but just becuase of some infantile, petty enjoyment of "I know something you don't know..."
Is this a college grad, or someone who is still in the 4th grade "No boys allowed" club?

Sorry for the rant.
I don't know what AOT means.

Yo,
It's a Greek acronym, folks.

The girl who said it was Latin needs to sign up for Classical Studies.

Secret Greek acronyms are common in Greek fraternities and sororities.

The new "Houses" (eg, Asian houses, co-ed organizations) don't have these usually.

Ok well i first got interested when chatting with girl #1, her buddy icon had KD AOT and i asked about it and she said it was this secret latin acronym. So i message an old friend of mine who i knew was a KD and she siad it was this big secret and said "its definately not latin" and then she said she was like taking the secret to her grave. so back to girl 1, i ask her about it some more and she says she knows its in latin.

girl #2 i know is pretty smart, i don't really know about girl #1. Girl #3, the drunk girl at 1 AM said it was this big ass secret again and wouldn't reveal anything at all.

Greek Makes more sense. HOWEVER you should understand this sorority was founded by a woman back in 1896 or something. She may very well have come up with a latin motto, no one can know her intentions. Being a greek organization you would think greek, and AOT are all greek letters, however I guess there's no way to really tell until it gets figured out.

I agree with Jzero.
Doesnt anyone know greek? I mean what kind of a format would you think a three word motto is, possible 3 nouns, or am i thinking that it will translate too directly into English, with 1 work in greek corresponding to one English word, i cant really say what else since I have no idea the way the greek language works, where it seems like three words can easily translate into an entire sentence in English.

I think the only hope is if someone can get a Kappa Delta to tell, google isn't going to do it :(

I must not give up though. Thanks in advance for any new info.

I asked my friend the Classics major who's going to grad school next year @ Cambridge. He couldn't think of anything off the top of his head, so it's probably not a common abbreviation or anything. But then again, as a Classics major, he's somewhat detached from reality, so you never know :D

I wouldn't be losing any sleep over it. I bet you that 90% of the Kappa Delta sorrorites out there had no freaking idea what the letters stood for so they each just made up their own thing. If you locked 100 girls from 100 different sorrorites and told them to right down what it means you'd probably get 100 different answers. And knowing greek isn't going to make any difference if it's in Ancient Greek. This would be the same thing as seeing such a symbol in a shakesperean play and asking someone who never studied shakespear to interpret it for you. Sure some things carried over from the Ancient Greek language to the "Modern" language, but it's still basically two different worlds.

Worry not my friend, half of these bimbos don't have a clue of it's true meaning . They're just talking out of their collective asses with all this secrecy and taking it to the grave nonsense.

nice stereotype.

KD is a national sorority, with that comes some commonality. Like other national Fraternities and Sororities they will share the same secrets like the handshake and mottos. Point being, that no matter what chapter you were in, you have something in common. Its also a way to tell if the person really is a member of the sorority. So if you put these girls in a room, they should all have been taught the same meanings.

Now, as far as AOT goes, it probably wont be a sentence, more than likely it will be 3 words that the sorority chose for them to strive for or model themselves after. If you look at my previous post, check out Greek words that are in that same style. Words like friendship, honor, loyalty, harmony, knowledge.

I disagree with cougar here. Searching google revealed that people from lots of different chapters use it in similar ways (signatures et cetera) and I can only assume this kind of correlation is fairly good evidence that they're probably on the same page. In fact, the three girls I have spoken to are all from 3 different universities. I knew two of them from high school and met one here.

Always to the Other True as someone said.

I will ask as this sounds pretty good, and no it hasn't been answered. Keep up the guessing though. :)

I know a girl who is from cyprus and is a native greek speaker. If you can find out what AOT is an acronym for, e-mail me:
hymy@arches.uga.edu and I'll get her to translate it. If i turns out to be latin, I got another friend that took some latin.
