770 4GB to 970?

I have two GTX 770 4GB cards and I just bought two Gigabyte GTX 970s.

I think the jump was worth it, as the 970's performance per dollar is just unmatched; especially for SLI..

One 770 it would be worth it to upgrade, but 2x 770 Sli kill the 980GTX-

I'm kinda depressed. Bought a GTX 770 4GB in June thinking Maxwell was nine months away. Oh well, it runs my games really smoothly and doesn't use any more power in gaming than a GTX 970 (which kind of surprised me).

All the current mid-range cards are good enough for most games at 1080p. You will only miss the new GTX 970 if you need the latest features or 4K support. Better to wait for the Maxwell 3.0 20nm cards, with even better secret sauce.

Yeah, I think you're right. No more hasty decisions.

most games? so what if he plays the games that can be very demanding?

even with a 970 at just 1080 there will be settings that need reduced in some games to stay above 60 fps.

I wish some review sites would state what AA settings they use. Those Crysis 3 settings look like they are using MSAA 4x as Bit Tech uses a mid-range processer instead of overclocked X79/99 processors and gets over 60FPS on some single GPUs: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2014/09/19/nvidia-geforce-gtx-970-review/8.

Yeah, I'm looking foward in particular to AC:Unity and The Witcher 3 and would like to play them maxed out with PhysX (except for performance intensive AA or something like ubersampling like in the Witcher 2) but the 980 is just too dammed expensive relatively to the 970, I mean what was Nvidia thinking? If it was closer to 450 USD MSRP then the 980 would be a far better value proposition.

*sigh* Maybe they'll be higher facotyr OC'd 970s or the 980 will get slightly cheaper in a few months.

People used to tweak around here because not all settings are noticeable. Now I guess we just throw money at the problem so we can just set everything to Max and forget it?

Coming from a 770 2GB, the only thing that could maybe get me to bite on a 970 at 1080p is if they start including the Borderlands Pre-Sequel bundle.

Gee, I don't know about the killing thing. Here is my single GTX 980 @ 1532 being 1 FPS faster than your 770 SLI.

These cards clock really well.
