7600GT vs 7900GS Power Consumption

I'm looking at the above cards as an upgrade for my GF's brother. He's only got an Antec 400w PSU that came with his Antec case, so I'm trying to be power conscious. From Anandtech articles it seems that the 7900GS consumes LESS power than the 7600GT. I just don't think that's right.

Any Advice?

7600GT = 35watts
7900GS = 43-46watts

As far as I remember - figures were from an Xbitlabs review I saw a while back. Anyway, regardless, my antec 380watt PSU is powering a 7900GS so a 400watt Antec will be fine.

That's for full systems I think. It's hard to measure just card wattage.

7600GT receives all it's power from the PCI-e slot which, I believe, is limited to about 75 watts(approx 6 amps at 12 volts).

I have an overclocked system with 7900GTO and the entire system takes only 224W from the outlet under load.

I don't know about the quality of that Antec supply. But, there is no way you would have a problem wit a quality 400W supply with a 7900GS or 7600GT.
