7600GS

So I bought and eVGA 7600GS and right out of the box it sits at around 79-80C idle. I don't really get any artifacts or frequent freezing. However, my 3dmark05 score seems low. 3304. That's the score I would expect from 06 maybe. Or is this normal? Think the heat and performance problem are related?

Yeah, I checked before I put it in, atleast pressed on the pins that go through to make sure its all the way in.

Yea, there is no way you would get over 3K in 06. My X1800XL gets 3340 in 06. I agree with Kromis on this one

Since it won't void your warranty, remove the cooler, clean it, then use some good T.I.M. on there. Reseat and check temps. The score seems about right for stock without tweaking any IQ settings to help inflate the score, the system I just fixed that had a AGP 6600GT@500/1000 scored nearly identical with a a64 3400+ and 2x512MB CL2 XMS. If the temp drops quite a bit, see how it overclocks. Otherwise a Zalman would definitely get it down nicely.

EDIT: Looks like digilife scored about 400points higher, with an inferior CPU and the 84.21's and that it should be a couple 100points faster than the 6600GT there. Probably just set it to high performance and get the right score since it looks like a$$.

Try getting the 84.21 ForceWare drivers if you don't have them already. With the stock eVGA drivers I got with my 7600GT KO, my idle temps were in the high 60s and load temps were over 80C. With a simple driver change, my load temp is now just a tad over 60C (with some Ceramique on the heatsink).

I've got the PNY 7600gs (AGP) and it runs at a steady 43.. might just be the make of the card 😀unno:

ouch how much did you pay? i sold my 5800 3dmark05 x800xl for like 80 bucks recently after sitting in the FS section for like 3 weeks...
