7600 Diff

hey,
I was wondering if anyone knows the differences between the Nvidia 7600 GT and the Nvidia 7600 GS. The GT is 50 dollars more expensive so i was wondering what you are getting for your 50 dollars. thanks for anybodies help.

The biggest difference is the memory. The GS uses ddr2 while the GT uses ddr3, resulting in a massive difference in clockspeed.

The GT has higher clock frequencies but the GS can come with a passive heatsink. And yes, the GS uses DDR2 memory.

Both cards have same number of pixel pipes, but the GS's core clock is in the 400 MHz range while the GT's core clock is stock at 560 MHz, with many vendors pushing that to around 600. Memory clock is another area where the GS suffers, using much slower GDDR2 versus the faster GDDR3 found in the GT. While both versions may have 256mb of VRAM, the GT's RAM is clocked stock at 1400 MHz (with some vendors pushing that to nearly 1600), while the GS's RAM is clocked at a rather conservative 800 MHz stock.

ddr2 is not inherently massively slower than ddr3. The memory on the 7600gt is clocked alot higher than the gs version.

If I am worried about heat issues should i be able to still get the gt version or should i just get the gs version to keep the heat down? which do you think will be louder? is it worth the 50 dollars? thanks for your help

I have a passive version of the 7600GT from Gigabyte ($170), which I used to replace my loud XFX 6600GT. It works great and is 100% silent. And yes, that is a 7600 GT, not a 7600 GS.

Actually, no. That's just where they stand from a performance standpoint.

If you want to talk about "replacement", then the 7600GS replaces the 6600LE/NU while the 7600GT replaces the 6600GT.

Alright so these are the two cards that i am choosing from. can someone let me know how much more performance i am going to get for the extra money i am spending. thanks for your help

Let me know if i should go with different models of the 7600 Gt of GS too. I also read somewhere that there is about a 35% performance increase between GT and non GT let me know if thats really the case or what not. thanks again.

why on god's green earth would you do that

eVGA 7600GT KO 580MHz = ~$170
XFX 7600GT XXX 590MHz = ~$190

so you would pay $20 (or 11.76% more) for 10 MHz (or a 1.72% increase) which is definitely not worth it

Edit: this is assuming you don't overclock, if you do it's an even dumber move

I did look at that one and i really liked it but i am trying to put this in a microfly case and i wasnt sure that it would fit in that case. does anyone know if it can or not? thanks.

yeah the 7600gt is more of a replacement for the 6800gto/6800NU/non GT and the 6600gt.

7600gs is more of a replacement for the 6600non gt.
