The US has about 300 US "diplomats" in Russia. About 1200-1300 "staff" total. Most of the staff are Russian nationals who are drivers, maintenance, visa issuers etc.

Putin wants to cut the employment down to 455 to match what Russia has in the US.

What will happen is that a few US "diplomats" will be expelled and sent back to the US and about 700+ Russians will be out of a job and out of the Embassy and Consulates etc.
