754-pin Athlon 64 3700 much better than 3400?

I am thinking of building a computer, and I'm wondering whether the 754-pin Athlon 64 3700 offers that much of a performance increase over the 3400. Does the 1 MB cache improve games that much? Also price is a consideration here. I can get the OEM version 3400 for only $178 and get my own heatsink/fan. The 3700 costs $260 retail and comes with AMD stock cooling (which is probably loud).

It'll give you on average 3-5% more oomph in your applications.

3400 is the much better buy. they dont OC very far though, 2.5-2.6 maybe. the thing is already blazing fast.

^lol^ you just keep thinking that :) I think that you can get the 3700+ retail from mwave for $230... I know you can if you get it with this mobo....

If you are going S754, you might as well go all the way :)

Oh, believe it, but $15 more? I would do it. $30+ more, nah, just get the 3400+....

But the 1 meg cache can help to make up for the loss of bandwidth though.

I have had both..the 3400 1meg cache is a rock solid procs. That been said the 3700 is a little faster and solid. if money is the issue I would go with the 3400 and bump it up.

Except for the s939 chips OC'd at 2.7 and higher, which many are. Are you Prime stable for 24 hours? You should be more specific with your Sandra tests, although Sandra doesn't mean anything in real applications so it doesn't really matter. Plus, 3dmark05 is a GPU test, not a CPU test, so that score means nothing.
