This is how much I spent in credit card bills this month: $000.00.

Visa Check Cards rule - you won't spend more than you have!

Wrong. They are more succeptible to fraud. You are not afforded the same consumer rights as a credit card.

It depends on the check card. On my BofA Gold check card I have the same protection as a credit card.

Except that the money comes from your account immediately, & even if you get it back eventually you're still out the money until you get it returned.

What happens if someone racks up $1,000 in charges the week rent is due?

Bingo and not everyone banks with Bank of America. Most banks require that you fill out, sign and notarize an affidavit statement and take anywhere from 3 business days to 2 weeks to investigate the unauthorized charges.

I would NEVER use a debit card for online purchases.

My USAA "CheckVisa" offers fraud protection immediately after notification. But, again, not everyone can bank with USAA.

I use my credit card to build credit rating. Pay it off every month.

My credit card bill averages about $350 a month. Gas and groceries, mostly. I use a Discover Platinum Card, so I get 1% of that back.
