someone buys a product and then sends it back the manufacturer for whatever reason. the manufacturer repairs it or corrects the deficiency (missing cable) or whatever and then sells it as re-certified. all products that are re-certified or refurbed must be labeled as so. this one doesnt say anything about that so maybe this thing is just what it says it is--an oem drive under the mediamax name. the 8mb cache drives have been replaced by 16mb cache ones. i'm a little curious what kind of warranty is included.

There are better places to buy from than AscendTech.
If you're sweating over a few bucks, don't go for a Raptor at all. :p
