74gb raptor Raid 0 vs seagate 320gb Raid 0

I currently have the fig in my sig, and my raptors are a little annoying for one, they are very hot and loud, and VERY finnicky and give me boots disk errors about once a week, but i think that is due to the power plugs cuz they are at a wierd angle. My thinking is, sell the raptors on ebay or here, and pick up 2 seaget 320 perp drives for raid 0. Are there any comparison charts with these two setups or close to these setups, or does anyone know what the performance would be?

Also I think I might sell my modstream as well and grab a seasonic s12 500, those modulars have been pissing me off forever.

Does anyone have any opinions or thought about my situation? Thanks for any and all help.
 
People in this forum generally dislike raptors. You might as well get 1 150GB raptor because it beats out 2 74GB in Raid 0. This way you don't have to raid it and risk losing files and you get one of the best performance with just one hard drive.
 
You bought 2 Raptors and I assume that cost about 300. You didn't mention that you were interested in space, so I assume you wanted performance. I mean if you wanted space then you wouldn't have Raided your hard drives and could've just gotten a big hard drive that cost the same as your 2 raptors in the first place.
Notice you also said "does anyone know what the performance would be?" I am sorry then if the size of the hard drive was also in your mind.

Yes that was the mistake i made when i bought the drives i look back and say it was stupid on my part. But i figure i could see the 2 raptors for $80 +- 20 i can get similar perfromance and 4x the space. i just want to know how similar the performance would be if i were to do this. or if it would be worth while/
 
Performance of those 320GB seagates´ll be lower but not significantly(about 5-7%) so i think its much better bang for bucks.
 
i have 2 74gb raptors in Raid0. I never had any reliability issues. Sure they cost too much, but if you want the absolute peak access, you go with them.

the lowest I seen my access time in a HD Tach chart is 8.1ms, and thats only after I installed my dual core CPU. Before that, it was always 8.3ms.
 
I'm very surprised to read this post.

I'm a novice and I'm right now trying to figure out a decent system for photo processing (Photoshop and such). My idea was to have a Raptor as first HD, to put the OS and the softwares.

Why are Raptors bad ? I only had seen outstanding reviews so far (on Newegg, for instance), except for the price obviously.

i think its more of the power plugs but they are not worth the price, i think i can handle a 5% perfromance cut.
 
Theyre not bad dude. Theyre the best there is for people that want the ultimate. Aside from high priced SCSI. Most people cant afford them. Or dont want to.

Raid 0 on desktop system (Single User) bad...

I fell for the hype around Raid 0 but there are several anandtech posts & other sites that back up my experiance:
Raid 0 made NO difference in my computing experiance, ZERO, ZIP, NADA.....

I still think the raptor 74gb drives offer decent performance for the money,, but I wouldnt put them in a raid 0.

Learn from the mistakes of others & avoid Raid 0.

no need to learn from others, i learned from myself. I like riad cuz its just feels quicker which i like. does its still seem like a good idea to sell my raptors and get 2 seagate 320gb drives?
