New 74gb 8mb cache Raptors are model NLR1 which some claim is a new 1 platter design which uses one of the 150Mb (2 platter NLR0) Raptor platters vs the 2x36gb platters in teh original 74gb Raptor

To make sure I have my understanding of platter density right, a higher density platter will give higher performance, right? in which case, higher density + more cache = a reasonable jump in performance.
 
Yes higher density means better performance, which would mean that a new 1 platter 8mb cache Raptor is faster than an original 2 platter 74gb 8mb cache Raptor. Plus be cooler, quieter and use less power
 
Sounds good enough to wait for. I dont know when the new models are gonna be available here, but I will try to wait.
