generally from what i've read they are smart enough to look under the seat now but yes still if you take the plate off and they can't tell if your car is stacked with equip or what model u have they are less likely to bother checking reversing faceplates don't fool any decent theives

btw, from the models ive seen at the store, almost anything with a removable face is not extra cheap so it still could have a good resale whataver it is.
