74 year-old shop owner guns down would-be robbers.<<update- see first post>>

A few highlights:

Adams, who has owned the small grocery store just inside I-285 for 26 years, said he was in a rear office watching television when he saw the robbers on his store monitor about 10:45 p.m.

The Korean War veteran grabbed his 12-gauge shotgun with one hand. Using his other to guide his walker, he walked to the front of the store and fired a single shot.

"I got two in one shot, that's what the police told me," Adams said.

EDIT- Response from the communitly has been overwhelmingly positive

My favorite bit from the follow-up story:

By Friday morning, Adams, the owner of the Pac A Sac store at 2615 Lawrenceville Highway for 26 years, was being hailed as sort of a John Wayne in a walker. One customer delivered a box of Winchester shotgun shells with a note: "Thank you Mr. Adams -- You are a hero."

Hehe....the deliverer of the ammo is my neighbor and a good friend of mine. We had a good laugh about this the other night when he and his wife were over for dinner. 😀

If they're truly would-be robbers, then this is one example of good use of guns. Good one for the grandpa. I still think he took too much risk though.

[sarcasm] Oh no, I would have to disagree with you. Society clearly must have failed these individuals to force them into stealing. The Shop owner should be tried and put away for life. Now if we only had the bullet fingerprinting from the shopkeepers gun, we could easily convict him and prove that for the first time gun fingerprinting has solved a crime. [/sarcasm]

( Yes I know you cant ballistic fingerprint a shotgun that shoots pellets 😛 )

That sort of happened around here a few months ago. Somebody kept breaking into the veterinary clinic's around town stealing that cat
tranquilizer stuff. Well this one vet got a tip from the cops that his place might be next, so he decided to camp out in his office. Sure as sh!t about 2 in the morning they broke in. Vet started shooting, shot one of them in the back and he dropped dead in the ditch.

Dont mess with the VET!!

Damn right!

This is the second time he was robbed. The first time he was shot and that's why he has to use the walker.

No, it's because he was shot during the first robbery. I live in Atlanta and it was on the radio this morning.

Shot in the ass, no less. That'd make me cranky too. 😛

Good for the older man.....The bad guys take up less room in prison when you lay them down
horizontally 🙂

My dad's seventy four and he doesn't use a walker. Just because a person's old doesn't mean they're broken down.

What would you rather do? slap em on the hand or put them in timeout?

Well, you forget...these three kids are obviously a product of their environment and bear zero responsibility for the attempted robbery of a 74-year old man. Clearly he provoked them by owning a convienence store. Instead of shooting them, he should have given each a popscicle and a slurpee along with all his cash and valuables.

You know, I think the guy that chased down the car thief should be in exactly the heap of trouble that he is, but do you not see the difference between an unarmed individual who is simply stealing your property and an armed robber inside your home or business?

When the alleged robber left the store, Adams grabbed a pistol, followed him out and fired a shot in the air.
Yes, alleged. Because a person who takes things at gunpoint can't actually be called a robber. We have to be fair after all.

Nah, that's just newspaper legal semantics. They never caught or ID'd that particular guy AFAIK, so the paper includes the word "alleged". You'll notice they drop the "alleged" bit after a guilty verdict is pronounced.
