Building a new C2D system.

Planned on buying a 8800GTS but couldn't make myself do it knowing card prices are going to come down in the near future.

Did I make a decent pick for card under $100? All I play currently is Battlefield 2. What level of graphics can I expect with the 7300GT?

Thanks

NOTE: 256mb edition

You can get a 7600GT for sub-$100

You can expect some decent graphics with the 7300GT but uhh....just think of it as...somewhat faster than a 6600GT!

6600GT will play BF2 okay. Just don't expect super high settings and you'll be pleased with how much performance you can get for $80.

Just beware that there are some with only 64 bit memory and some with slower MHz memory. Just read specs carefully to make sure you get at least 800MHz memory at 128 bit. They may not be the cheapest 7300GT cards on the market, but difference doesn't seem to be more than $5-10.

Depends on whether or not the 7300GT is a DDR3 version. They are considerablyfaster than the DDR2 flavor but are hard to find. NewEgg had the DDR3 leadtek at one time.

well currently I can play BF2 on my old FX5200, Pentium 4, 512 RAM on low low settings. This is the GDDR2 version of the 7300GT. I just want to be able to play BF2 on my system until I get my new dx10 card within next couple months.

I hope it works out.

7300gt is an ok card. BF is more CPU dependent thought u might want to lower detail settings a bit but with a strong CPU u will be fine anyways. and the new ATI & nV cards are expected to be launched March 8th and the following weeks. You wont have to wait that long ;)

Yeah. Im really hoping it works out....

I was thinking that maybe with a slight overclock that the card might work out well enough.

It's possible to get a cheap 7300GT that uses GDDR3 memory, I've seen ones with 500Mhz core, and 1000Mhz memory, going for cheap prices too (this is in the UK) so it's possible to get a fairly quick card for a bargain price to keep you going until cheaper DX10 cards are out.
