727 Jet Tanker Missing, stolen in Africa . .

CaptnKirk

Lifer
This actually happened a couple months back, but nobony has found where it went
or heard from the people who were known to have been near it.

Mising Tanker

In a brazen act, two men climbed aboard an idle Boeing 727 jet in Angola last month and flew off into the African sky without a trace.
The disappearance touched off searches across the continent and, in the post-September 11 era, prompted worries about why the plane was taken.
US investigators and civil aviation officials in Africa said the plane ? which had been converted into a fuel tanker ? most likely was taken for a criminal endeavour such as drug or weapons smuggling, but they have not ruled out the possibility it was stolen for use in a terrorist attack.

That's the tanker that Bush and Dick stole to transport the stolen Iraqi oil back to Texas...NO WAR FOR OIL...NO WAR FOR OIL...illegal war...Bush is dumb...NO WAR FOR OIL!

I just thought I would chime in with the nonsense that usually follows in any thread on this board. 🙂

If you don't like the pollution of nonsense in the forums, than maybe you should do your part and keep quiet. 😉

Anyway, I just wonder what kind of security that African airports have, if they have any at all?

What would keep terrorists or criminals from taking other airplanes?

How would we know the difference? You're always chiming in with nonsense.

Maybe it's the aircraft Bush and Cheney stole to smuggle the WMD out of Iraq.

I'm not sure about the security at airports in African nations but I do know the security at American airports hasn't been strengthened as much as people think. Sure they give the passengers a real hard time boarding now. But they're loading cargo on passenger airliners without any inspection. The Air Marshall program has been cut back due to costs as well as the airport security personnel cutbacks for the same reason.

In the end the people of Iraq will be more secure than we are. And we're footing the bill for them.

Why is it OK to spend countless billions over there but impossible to find the funds to stop another 9/11 over here?

I think you are right, on all accounts.

I know Bush is behind this somehow.

If that is all you can contribute to the discussion please feel free to keep it to yourself.

But since you bring it up, Bush is opposing installing jamming devices on commercial aircraft in the US because he says it's too expensive. I suppose airport security is too expensive for Bush as well since the programs to increase security were underfunded or not funded right from the start.

Senators Schumer and Boxer have a bill in the Senate right now which would mandate jamming devices on commercial aircraft. Just like El Al, Israel's airline, which had one of their airliners attacked by a shoulder fired missile during takeoff.
The missile missed thanks to the jamming devices.

Are you saying we should just wait and hope that no one gets one or more of these weapons into the USA? Or should we be proactive like Israel and spend some money on airline safety instead of insane excursions into nations who pose not threat?

Never happened.
happened somewhere in Africa not so long ago, dont remember if it was equiped with jamming devices but it was fired at and they did miss

Not El Al, and the missile more likely just plain missed.

I was listening to the news this morning. CNN, WNBC, CBS, ABC, MSNBC one of those. I consider them all reliable news sources. My memory is pretty good. I heard on one of them the El Al airliner used a jamming device to evade two shoulder fired missiles on take off.

What would an American airline pilot do?

Exactly. The airliner in Mombosa was reported to have jammers. It did not. Nor was it El AL. 5 minutes of research would tell you this.
As far as the "jammer" is concerned there is a lot of opinion that the one installed by the Israelis is nothing more than a feel good measure. Slow moving, wide body jets with a heat sig. the size of the sun are going to be very hard to protect against a determined, well trained adversary. Funding for R & D might be prudent but it may be an insurmountable problem.

Air Force 1 has it. I'll take it.

It was an airliner taking off from Nairobi, Kenya, and the weapon used was a Russian made SA-7. No counter measures were employed, the missile just missed.

LOL

You cant "JAM" an IR seeking missle. If someone shoots a stinger at your Airliner during takeoff you are SOL unless the guy shooting it is a horrible shot.

Air Force One has it's own Air to Air radar and Radar Warning Reciever, flare and chaff delivery system and an autopilot that works simultaneously.

Such a computer system would be far too expensive to install on every single airliner in this country. So Bush is right, it is too expensive.

Forget jammers, all passenger jets need to be equipped with AMRAAM's, Mavericks, flares and chaff. Oh yeah and a 20mm cannon would be bad-ass too.

Magnesium Flare deployment is the way to duck an IR seeking missle
You show it a hotter target than the intended target and drive it off course.

But how are you planning to detect the missile? IR missiles dont have a radar signiture, your only warning is a piece of equipment known as your eyeballs... and believe it or not, jet liner pilots have other things to do during takeoff and landings... plus their visibility to the sides and rear isnt good at all

Screw that junk, I want pilots with frikkin lasers on their heads! Take care of missiles and terrorists!! 😀

There is no missing plane. Africa isn't that big. If there really was a plane missing it would have been found by now. It's all just a plot so the US can invade Africa and don't any of you sheep try to tell me different.

It's amusing to see someone post a comment which is very precise self-criticism.
