yea 32" is too small at 8 feet to do 1080p, just can't see it.
Have you tried with eyeglasses on?

not true.
if anything 1080i was standard for most channels "companies".
hd cameras and the rest are no longer costly or impractical...even youtubers do 1080p at times.

Low motion lower bitrate still gets by with detail in the low motion areas.
*edit i see the &fmt no longer works, u gotta set resolution options yourself now

NOT TRUE...
Mainstream channels are ~1080, some beter, some worse. Regular spanish channels are better than regular HD channels 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11...Channel 13th is very good.
Channel NY1 - logo looks like 720, rest is like 480 or less...
I've dl'd .MKV videos, that looks way better than those "supposed" 1080 channels...
mkv videos are bluray rips assuming u are a pirate...
I think you lost track what you were answering, it is true most are 1080i production/broadcast.
Downscaling isn't that big a problem.
Old consoles, I guess you can get crt if you are really picky about it, sony fine pitch trinitron would be best, but the space and weight and trouble...only worth it if you are a die hard geek on that kind of thing.

you can find them on ebay
honestly any sd stuff looks fine to me on plasma, i care about how exact it looks about as much as i care when I watch some stupid video on youtube.
Look, you can get into the absurdly local detail of your local carrier nerfing your bitrate to nothing for certain channels and the rest, but the fact is, if done right 1080i is going to look sharper than 720p, even at its best 720p looks soft.
