I just got one of these and boy...and these quiet. I don't even here it spinning when I'm putting data on it. I have 2 Western Digital 30GB and those are nice too, but it is a little noiser than the maxtor. I haven't had any problems with any of the drives yet. The maxtor has fluid ball bearings. I say buy the one that has a good price on them right now.
 
I have had bad luck with Western Digitals, I will never buy another one of them. I have had great luck with Seagate and Maxtor. I have replaced several IBMs and dont want to deal with them anymore either.
