71.84 temp readings on 6800GT

I had installed the 66.93 drivers when I got my 6800GT, and found the temps to be anywhere from 62-66*C idle, and 75-77*C load(having the temp sensor running and quitting CS:S to see it, or alt tabbing). I just installed the 71.84s and saw that the temp was 84*C, which is rather odd, in my opinion.

I know either way it's still within threshold. A bit toasty, but so is my room, because the heat is on.

I think this is a bug with the drivers; I've read about it on several message boards. A (rather strange) workaround is to overclock the video card a bit past 400MHz, if you're so inclined.

Its a common driver bug found in the 71.84's with the 6800 GT's. OCing the core to 402 should solve the problem.

Ok, I thought I remembered that being the case, but I had forgotten and stink at using the search function here.

You're a smart one 😛

I didn't know, the dood was trying to scam people. Still, ur a smart one 😛

I have the same problem. My idle temp is around 71, with the previous drivers it was in the mid 60s.
So are the 71.84 just Reporting the Temp Higher, or is the acual temp higher?

I've heard both stories. I havn't actually measured it my self but I think the actual temps are highier.

ill just want until this problem gets fixed.

I just installed the older 66.93 drivers also. Idle Temp went from 71C to 56C.
O'well

you know, its pretty wierd. I downloaded the 71.84 drivers and my temperatures read at idle 32C and load 52C. But then again... its pretty cold here in guam so having my comp right near my window overlooking the bay is whats helping the temps.

Question, how do i overclock my vga to 402? i have the evga 6800gt, and my idle temps around 74~80, and when i try to play either farcry or counterstrike, it goes upto 120, and it shuts down my games saying it's overheating. it's been like that for the last few days.

The 71.89 drivers fix the temp bug but if your card is really overheating then you don't want to be overclocking it.

that looks like a little bit more than the temp bug.... I t looks like either you have a bad core or just the HSF isn't making good contact with the core. I would suggest RMA or trying to fix it your self.

Thanks JBT, i contacted EVGA, and i have to RMA, unfortunately they won't send me a new fan and i can't replace my fan, otherwise it will void the warranty.

no problem. Good luck with the RMA. Its pretty much your only option if you want to keep the warrenty.
