Thinking of getting a second card and going crossfire.

Any issues with my current PSU ?

Cheers Guys,

Moved to PSU forum.

EZCool 700W PSU doesnt sound like a high quality psu but I could be wrong. if you are going to run 5850 crossfire then you would probably be pushing your luck with that particular psu. I dont think that psu even has close to enough 12v amps to run that kind of setup.

It might be fine for a while, but do yourself a favor and spring for a corsair 1000 watt or another top notch PSU so you can use it for a long long time.

Corsair, antec or nothing, that's just me. Never even heard of that brand. You'd be fine with a 700w corsair.

As others have stated it sounds like you'd need to spring for something better to be on the safe side....Just google it and read away on the one you have.

Found this quote from a former user of the one you have 🙂

" The 700w killed 3 hard drives, damaged my RAM, GPU and motherboard. Mine is just a paperweight now "

Guess the question is do you feel lucky!

You should go ask in the power supplies sub-forum. They can probably tell you how good a PSU you have.

A quality 700 watt unit is fine (I don't think your unit is a quality piece of hardware). My Kill-a-Watt shows 515 watts in Furmark with my system (that's two slightly higher than reference 5870's).

Doesn't look like a good psu, the two 12v outputs it has are limited to 20 amps each. So the best case is it's got 40 amps of 12v output, its more like a 550 watt psu than a 700 watt and I doubt whether that psu will be stable at high loads. I wouldn't risk it myself, after doing a google search on that psu I haven't seen any good remarks about it.

Cheers guys for all the input, yeah I may upgrade the PSU as well as grab another 5850.

Alternatively I may just hang on and wait for the next gen and go single card.

Don't mean to hijack, but is this one good for SLI'ing (2) 570s?

It's a solid unit, and would be the safety minimum I would suggest when using two stock or mildly overclocked 570s with your rig. If you plan to do more heavy overclocking on two 570s then get something bigger. It's best to err on the side of caution if you have the means to do so.

Nope, too low. Need AT LEAST 700w. Remember that good PSUs only actually use 80-90% of the listed power efficiently.
I don't think you understand what efficiency of a PSU means. It works in reverse. A power supply can use all of its rated power. Sometimes it can actually do more. The crappy units lie, so those can do less. Efficiency is a term meant to relay how much power it draws from the electrical circuit in your house to produce the necessary power for your system. It is not a measure of how much power the unit can produce to your system.

That too would work.
