Prove it. from the Wikipedia article you linked "Results from over 100 animal and clinical studies in the FDA approval process unanimously indicated a lack of risk associated with sucralose intake."

like everything, dont over do it and it will be fine

and millions would disagree with you about the taste.

Thanks op this is a great deal. in for some.

You must have stopped reading the Wikipedia article too early. Try after the words "Sucralose, however, is not known to be toxic in small quantities...". Instead, you should have stopped reading this thread after the word "Splenda" and not TC.

And I do agree with FireChicken about the taste.

Data? Wikis, neo-hippie health gurus, and self-proclaimed experts do not count. Nor do non peer-reviewed journals. And please do not try to extrapolate findings from in vitro studies, or massive overdosing in animals.

We can agree to disagree on the taste. I happen to find sucralose to most closely resemble sucrose, of all the sweeteners on the market.

How about a Duke University study?

Disclaimer: The conclusions have been extrapolated by health nuts, but it should still be concerning that artificial sweeteners such as Splenda (sucralose) demonstrably reduce gut bacteria, reduce uptake of drugs/nutrients, and possibly even contributes to weight gain. Now there are certain other questions raised by opponents of the study, but I'd rather not take any chances with a "fake" sugar with substituted chlorines.

Sugar tastes best. Use it sparingly, exercise, and exercise some more to avoid diabetes.

sucralose tastes like aspartame, which is to say like licking the end of a metal medical instrument meant for going in some kind of human orifice.

I have several issues with the methodology of the Duke study, including the fact that Splenda, and not sucralose was used, food consumption was not controlled, and activity levels were not monitored. Metabolic cages should really be used in studies such as this one.

On top of that, it is curious that the authors chose to omit error bars or stats for any of their data on weight change, fecal pH, etc- in fact, the only data that I see statistics for are related to intestinal bacteria changes.

Edit: I understand the cautious approach, but it is one thing to be cautious, and another altogether to make broad statements without any supporting evidence or disclaimers (the latter part is not directed towards you, Spartan).

It sounds simple but to a lot of people it's hard to justify having to work off the "bad" stuff you just took. I like you prefer sugar but know I will have to exercise a bit more. My co-worker, however, loves this stuff and takes them quite a bit. He's probably excessive about them but not too extreme. I'm debating whether to tell him this deal or not :)

I don't know how dangerous Splenda is but I have to agree it tastes like sh!t. Remember the Diet coke that was made with Splenda. Tasted like a wet rats a$$. Splenda doesn't taste good in anything I've used it in from hot/cold coffee to hot/cold tea. I've tried the new Truvia as well and it's better than Splenda but still not great. I still think Sweet & Low is the best sweetener for both hot and cold tea and coffee.

Even watching my weight I almost always use real sugar. It's only 12 calories per teaspoon and I only use a small amount in both coffee and tea.
