700 & BX6 rev2, need help.

I have a Abit BX6 rev 2 with a Iwill slotket and a cB0 stepping p3-700 fc-pga. It runs 933 stock voltage no problems. Right now I have it at 966 @ 1.75volts with the 138mhz fsb. But when I put it on 143mhz fsb (7 x 143 = 1001), it posts at 958. But then, I can't get to the screen where you choose between Windows2k and 98SE (Dual boot). Right after the screen where you go into your bios and it checks your devices (cd-rom, hdds, etc) it goes to a black screen with a blinking marquee at the top. And just sits there. Whats this mean? Not enough cooling? Or just the chip is at its limits?

The rest of my system is as follows.
256 mbs of PC133 CAS2 ram (Crucial)
ASUS V7700 GeForce 2 GTS PURE 32 MB DDR
3.2 GB Maxtor 5400 RPM
8.6 GB WD 5400 RPM
Netgeat NIC
PCI Modem

Thanks

That might be the limit of the memory... my crucial cas3 couldn't do over 143... the cpu 700e, easily goes over 1ghz...

Wow! I am impressed with you running 138MHz FSB stable! I couldn't get my old BX6r2 over 124MHz, but then again I am a rookie.

So maybe lower my RAM timings to 3-3-3? I thought and heard that the crucial could do around 145+ cas2 pretty easy. Also why when I set the fsb to 143 does it POST at 958? 7 x 143 = 1001 NOT 958. Any other suggestions?

hi,
try setting both the slotket voltage and bios cpu voltage to 1.8v ( or whatever you are comfortable with.) I tried this to get my chip past 933. I can do 980 and 996 stable doing this practice. hope this helps. someone else chime in with some info. However, it seems better to do cas 2 memory as high as it can go instead of increasing cpu fsb and memory at cas3. You'll get better performance with the memory at cas2 than you would see with 65 mhz.
my opinion though....

Ok thanks, I was wondering about the cas settings. I still wanna know why when I put it at 143 fsb it says 958?

Bump. I really wanna get a gig 🙂 Btw, when I set the voltage to 1.80, MBM4 read it as 1.86. Is that normal? Is it over reading or what?

Thanks

Anyone?

MBM does that to me too, don't worry. If you have a good cooler you can go to 2 volts.
Get MBM5, it's a tad more accurate.

(YMMV and I assume no liability and all that crap)

BTW I am running my P3 700e @ 1002 mhz with 1.95V - I use an alpha Pal 6035 and about 180 cfm air pulling into the case. Cooling is vital.

I'm a retard, whats YMMV?

Also I just put my RAM to 3-3-3, and it posted at 1045 (148fsb) and I got to where you choose which OS you want in dual boot. Then when I chose 98SE, it goes to a black screen then says "Divide OverFlow Error". Whats this mean?

Also I will probably get a Alpha PAL6035 soon hopefully. But I have NO money 🙁 Right now I have a CoolerMaster DP5-6H51 on it. Temps never get above 40C under full load at 966 (138fsb).

And what about when I put the fsb at 143 it posts at 958? Last time I checked 143 x 7 = 1001.

Bump.

143 x 7 = 1001 NOT 956!!!! I'm still wondering about this. Also when I do 143, it doesn't count all my ram, but at 148 it does, but can't get into windows!
