A New Jersey second-grader's drawing of a stick figure shooting a gun has earned him a one-day school suspension.Seven-year-old Kyle Walker's mom told an The Press newspaper of Atlantic City that her son was suspended for violating the district's zero-tolerance policy on guns. She said her son told her he'd drawn a water pistol.

Kyle gave the picture to another child on the school bus, and that child's parents complained about it to school officials.

The case is not the first in New Jersey in which students were suspended for depictions of weapons.

Four kindergarten boys were suspended in 2000 for playing cops and robbers, even though they were using their fingers as guns.

Meanwhile in other states you can shoot someone for steeling a bicycle.

That's really understandable though, as a biker I know if somebody came along and converted my aluminum frame to steel with their magical outer-space hands it would significantly affect my cycling.

"zero-tolerance" policy on GUNS, not on *&$# drawings:roll:

Besides, zero-tolerance policies are almost never a good idea. It's not as if they enact harsher penalties for the worst offenders, they just enforce the harshest penalty on ALL offenders, even the ones who don't deserve any punishment at all.

We need to track down the parents who complained and organize a mass shit-slapping-out-of.

I would have been soo suspended OFTEN if my school had that policy. Just about the only thing I could draw that looked cool were weapons and landscapes.

And I wrote fantasy stores and sci fi stories.

So glad I didn't have to deal with that.

I'm so glad I live in Canada, I still make giant stick wars on paper during meetings with co-workers.

Me too. Thats all we did in elementary school was draw war pictures. I never would have gotten out of fourth grade with these rules.
