Title should be retitled "Americans scared of plastic toy" to better fit P&N rhetoric.

This is what happens when an inbred monarchy led by the Queen Bitch lords over the peasants...oops, wrong thread. Right, this is the one where we blame it on "liberals" and "progressives" even though the police who arrested the child were most likely neither. Zero tolerance idiocy seems to span the political spectrum.

I'm having difficulty thinking of any reason why a 7-year-old child should ever be arrested. On the bright side, this kid has already learned the important life lesson that authority figures should never be trusted.

The family should hide behind religion. Most retards in this country respect that more than common sense.

Any gun that fires ping pong sized nerf balls cannot be easily mistaken for a real gun.

While you are most likely correct I would still like to see the 'weapon' before lobbing accusations at the school

So you are saying the rightwing is in general too stupid to be teachers, its nice to see you being honest for a change. That must be a new feeling for you.

The kid's going to grow up and come back in his teens, this time show them a real gun.

I would like to see a real gun the size of a nerf gun and have a 36.5125mm diameter barrel.

That's the first thing I thought too, but I don't think that either news article said "ping pong ball". I think they said "ping pong like". I took that to mean a lightweight hollow plastic ball. Possibly much smaller than a ping pong ball.

I'm not going to condemn the school or cops until I see a pic of the actual toy.

Why not? Even if it were an exact replica of a real firearm, arresting a seven year old child is outrageous.

I did say the school admin screwed up. It should have been handled privately, with a phone call to the parents.

But once called to the scene of the "crime," do the police not have a duty to enforce the law? The law provides no age-based exemption. Blame the legislature, not the cops.

It was probably painted black with a barrel shroud. :)

Still not dangerous until they add the bayonet lug, but then again I'm pretty sure that the Nerf™ are made in China and will wholly fail the 922 10 US parts count, so this child definitely needs to be locked away for the good of society.

I love how the news stories didn't bother to show any actual picture of what the immitiation firearm actually looked like. I am sure if they did people would be like WTF? You thought that looked like a real firearm.

Since the kid was arrested, wouldn't the gun be confiscated as evidence?

Yes,in theory - However the authorities don't seem to want to release a picture.

I can just imagine the trial. We submit as exhibit A a Nerf Gun. I wonder if the parents could insist that this go to a jury trial.
