I have a 60mm fan which whisltes like mad. I has a molex pass-through connecton and is wired to the female plug on the molex; red wire to the yellow wire on the molex, black wire to a black wire on the molex. If i have my info straight I just need to move the black fan wire to the red wire on the molex, Does this sound correct?

Right, that grounds the fan to the +5V line, which means its operating voltage is 12V - 5V = 7V, instead of 12V - 0V (ground) = 12V.
