7-speed M-DCT

When is the 8 speed coming out? Getting a bit ridiculous here with gears arent we?

Sounds like a more complex rip off of DSG. VAG announced their 7 speed "dry" clutch DSG 2 weeks ago. M-DCT's power handling capabilities are impressive and superior to the DSG. But if you want M-DCT you have to shell out the cash for the pricey M3.

The complexity of launch control using the M-DCT is ridiculous.

DSG:
1. Turn ESP off
2. Put it in S-Mode
3. Brake with left foot
4. Bring up RPM's
5. Launch by letting go of brake

M-DCT:
1. Turn DSC off
2. Turn Drivelogic to S6
3. Move shift lever to the front and hold
4. Wait for starter flag on dash
5. Brake with left foot
6. Bring up RPM's
7. Play with cruise control lever if necessary to adjust starter speed
8. Launch by letting go of brake and gear selector

Why not the seven speed when it benefits performance as it is? I doubt they will go to an 8 speed manual... Autos, yeah, Lexus has an 8 speed auto in their LS460 and BMW is rumored to be coming out with one also. If it works, why not? This 7-speed DCT car is going to get better gas mileage too.

It usually does when you have engines with relatively narrow powerbands like this M3 (and the S85 v10 from the M5/M6).
