Like the title says I need someone to modify a sounds.pak file for me. I have the file and I have some random sounds I was going to use instead of the default dialog. I've researched this for a couple hours and I have a few leads but I honestly don't have the time to figure it out right now.

Anyone want to earn an easy $7?

A PAK file is basically a file compression package used by some games for data storage. It can be "opened" and unopacked by WinZip.

PAK

I can get it opened but after I modify it I can't get it to work with Crysis, even after I encrypt it again.

i'm not sure this will work. i know that several games actually use a hash to make sure that the files aren't hacked. all i remember is this: when i wanted to edit the game settings in LOTR:B4ME2 (unit cost, damage and so on), i had to replace numbers exactly. for example, if the cost was 2000 and i wanted it to be 50, it had to be 0050.

did you try making into a mod? i know that there are already several crysis mods. since there is a mod launcher, perhaps you can incorporate your modified sound.pak file into there?

The problem is that I'm not sure how to properly modify the sound.pak file. I can't even get the file I modified to work with the SP mode, let alone and Punkbuster issues.

From what research I did, it looks like some games require that the files in the sound.pak file be numbered in a specific order. I think when I deleted some of the files in the .pak file it through the order out of whack so I didn't get any sounds in the game rather than just a select few.

As you can tell I don't have much knowledge of these kind of files and so I'm trying to find someone who has more experience who'd like to make a quick buck.

I'll have a look at it and see if I can understand how it works, but I don't have... crysis? (i think you didn't mention it) so I won't be able to test it, if it works, its yours for free.

Thanks nova2. I'll give Doug's method a shot and see if I can replicate his success.
