Trump CAN'T dial back the rhetoric...his fan base will abandon him. As long as he can keep them afraid and enraged, he can get their votes. As soon as he tries to look like a common-sense politician, they'll abandon him and search for someone who hates what they hate. (unless they placate themselves with the thought that "Oh, Donnie still thinks like we do, he's just being muzzled by <insert your favorite group> the zionists, bankers, libruls, etc."

I can't help but think that Trump is forcing a kind of doubling-down for conservatism where you 'must' follow the ideology down the rabbit hole to remain part of the family. You have to believe every lie, back every conspiracy theory, become more irrational and ignore corruption you see right in front of you. You're not allowed to be a David Frum who can adopt conservative values while remaining moderate and critical of the President's many failures. It's either absolute loyalty or risk becoming a liberal, and well they can't have that, now can they?

I’m kind of the opposite side of that coin. I’m a Democrat who has never bought into the “librul” philosophy. I’ve been a Dem mostly because of their support of organized labor...and I was a union man for most of my working life. I’m pretty “middle of the road,” I support the second amendment, but believe SOME gun controls are good. I don’t like abortion as a form of birty control, but as a man, I don’t believe I have the right to tell women what they can/can’t do with their bodies, even though I have a fairly extensice criminal history, I’m still pretty much a “law and order guy,” and I’m all for stronger borders...we should round up the illegal immigrants and repatriate them.
None of those are very popular with the far left side of the party...and in some ways, I’m farther right than a lot of the Republican supporters...yet I’ve NEVER voted for any candidate with an (R) attached to them.

we should round up the illegal immigrants and repatriate them.

Why? To screw over their American Citizen children & families? 2/3 of all illegals have been here more than 10 years.

Or would it be to establish the kind of system & methods it would take to deport 10% of Greater LA? You know, like the fucking gestapo. It's not like you can tell the difference between those brown people until you've seen their papers.

Trump moves the Overton window in the direction of stochastic terrorism-

The use of mass, public communication, usually against a particular individual or group, which incites or inspires acts of terrorism which are statistically probable but happen seemingly at random.

It's what the GOP has been doing since Gingrich, as well. They're now calling for civility, but only from the other side, of course.

You see, when some idiot kids on college campuses engage in inflammatory and divisive political rhetoric, that's a threat to freedom and must be silenced in order to protect free speech.
But when the President of the United States engages in inflammatory and divisive political rhetoric, he's just telling it like it is. And if any weak minds become emboldened to violence by the President's inflammatory and divisive political rhetoric, that's the media's fault for quoting the President verbatim.

Didn’t mean to imply he would, just saying he should

I’ve said it before, the President needs to choose better words.
Better . . . words? That's all? Clothe his facist, racist, nativist ignornace in . . . better words? You seem to be intentionally minimizing the problem here. The question is . . . why?

Like I said...not popular with the liberals who can’t seem to grasp that ilegal means illegal. Obviously those who married illegal immigrants knew the risk that their loved ine could be deported...and married them anyway. That’s on them.

I DO agree it won’t be easy to catch the illegals without profiling and probably infringing on the rights of citizens and legal immigrants. Extreme care needs to be taken to protect their rights...

We need armed guards everywhere in America. Every single public space need an armed guard that can shoot down the next Terrorist pod person who emerges. We can never remove the guns because that would infringe upon our Freedumb so the only solution is turn our country into Syria or Iraq and have checkpoints and armed guards everywhere.

Syria and Iraq have the most Freedumb in the world. Everybody gets an AK and an RPG.

In Trumps america you can't even buy an RPG. Where is the freedumb in that?

I don't usually quote FIVR, but when I do...

He actually has a point. We don't explain what it would mean for the Republican fantasy to play out. The depiction is a bit chilling, and would probably knock a number of moderates down a peg or two. Do they want a police state, checkpoints and all?

And what did their American citizen children know? What about them?

Oh, wait- I know. Fuck 'em.

And what about all the other people in the cities, towns & farms where illegals live & work? How do they see it?

Fuck them too, of course. I'm sure people in LA, Houston, New York the the Iowa environs near the Nunes family dairy really want the kind of shitstorm a serious effort would entail. You betcha.

OTOH, the New Gestapo would be a great jobs program for Brownshirts. Oh, and try not to look like a Mexican, OK? That would be a real PITA.

If the parent was a bank robber or member of a criminal street gang, would you still have such a bleeding heart about the family...or would you support locking the criminal up...despite the hardships it would cause the family?

Yeah, fuck the farmers who exploit the cheap labor provided by the illegal immigrants. “Jobs Americans don’t want” is all too often jobs Americans don’t want for the shitty wages they pay.

Just fuck 'em all. Make America White Again!

It never was that around here or anywhere in the Southwest or California. Fucking with the native Latino population like that invites serious civil unrest. But you'll go with holding your eyes wide shut, I'm sure.

It doesn't seem he was a Trump supporter so much as emboldened by Trump, arguing that Trump didn't take things far enough.

You are exactly right. Trump is a bigot and an enabler of these fucks. So, Trump doesn't support the killing of journalists. He encourages them by incitement. It's like he's turning us into Brazil.

Trump is reaping what he has sown. And yes, he's realized that he may have been in part responsible for the murders by going too far with his hate speech via his admission that he needed to say he needs to turn down the heat with his alarmist hate and fear rhetoric without actually doing it.

Classic Trump double talk that his supporters have always loved and liked about him.

I'm just troubled by the idea that in Trump, folks like to surround themselves with leaders that think and act as they do. It's like "Damn, that Trump is somebody who I can really get behind because he's such a good liar and the way he treats women, well they're asking for it and we always knew Putin was such a nice guy whose only interest is on being our best ally and friend and hell yeah we don't need no help finding affordable health care and we don't need no deep state gov't shoving Medicare and Social Security down our throats BUT they better not take them away from me because unlike some other freeloading librul commie, I earned it."

And the Trump misspeaking (I'm trying to be kind) continues...

President Donald Trump falsely claimed Saturday that the New York Stock Exchange re-opened the day after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in an effort to justify holding a rally on the same day that a mass shooting occurred at a synagogue in Pittsburgh.

""And with what happened early today -- that horrible, horrible attack in Pittsburgh -- I was saying maybe I should cancel both this and that," "And then I said to myself, I remember Dick Grasso, a friend of mine, great guy. He headed up the New York Stock Exchange on September 11. And the New York Stock Exchange was open the following day. He said -- and what they had to do to open it you wouldn't believe. We won't even talk to you about it. But he got that exchange open."

It didn't open until Sep 17th.

I'll bet you idiots could get a group rate.

I'll bet you could put some content into a post if you really tried.

Trump calls for violence. Gets violence. Blames the Media. Calls for more guns, of course. If that 97 year old Jewish grandmother had just had a gun, why, she could have defended herself.

And Libs are the real idiots.

even if it did open the day after 9/11 that in no way justifies his holding the rally the evening of the mass shooting

I really don't have a problem with doing the rally the same day. People made arrangements & traveled for miles to be there. Beyond that, life is for the living.

OTOH, Trump can't keep himself from lying. He just can't.
