(Original post) Has anyone checked out these Greenlight games? They are pretty awesome looking to me. :awe:

Their Alpha releases should be this month or next month with The Dead Linger getting a new engine. They seem to be a mostly offline version of Day z but without the annoying hackers and bandits. I can't wait for these to come out!

Here is their links. I prefer 7 Days To Die so far. You can buy The Dead Linger now if you spend 35 USD on kickstarter. I am really liking the way Greenlight works. I just wish NMRIH and Black Mesa would release...

After playing both games for a wee while I have decided that 7 Days To Die is amazing and Dead Linger... Well Dead Linger sucks and isn't going anywhere. It is unplayable and it hasn't been updated in a long while. 7 Days To Day took a prices cut and a bundle pack was made so now is the best time for new players other than sales. Also Alpha 7 is now out and it's amazing. The game is still in alpha stage so there will be bugs and many of them. Here is the new steam pages.

7 Days to Die is the first game I've ever supported on Kickstarter. Early alpha starts on the 16th and I can't wait! The devs are really involved and there has been a ton of content put out over the last couple of weeks. It looks very solid for a pre-alpha.

I checked out some Dead Linger videos today and it looked really rough. Apparently development has been very, very slow.

Yeah I am waiting for Dead Linger to be finished and then get it for 50-75% off.
I was going to kickstart 7DTD but I want Alpha which is 35 USD which is around 60 NZ so no thanks.

both games seem interesting. 7 days seems more polished right now and both have some things I'm not sure I would like.

What do you not like? I find the way the blocks get warped a bit strange but I am sure I will get used to it.

Nope, there is multiplayer.

Early alpha version coming Friday will have peer-to-peer co-op while later versions will support dedicated servers.

I suggest watching RhinoCrunch's videos of 7D2D. He has the best series going, imo.

If I'm going to do PvP, I'd rather play Battlefield. At least I get a starting weapon. Always hated that about DayZ.

In 7 Days I don't like that the zombies get stronger/better/faster at night, they should stay the same.

I'm not sure I like how they can break down pretty much all doors/destroy buildings. That means you're never safe. You need a way to be safe. Whats the point in building a place to live if it can be destroyed?

In Dead Linger, looks like you'll be doing a lot of clicking and searching cupboard and shit to find stuff.

I'm not a big fan of having to eat and drink constantly in video games as well.

I hate PVP in I:SS. I have killed one person and that was my friend because he got infected and we couldn't cure it. I have killed 666 zombies in that game!

Also I recommend looking at this video if you want a quick overview of this awesome game! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2P3gr92Ap8

What's fun about being safe? Why even keep playing if the zombies are no longer a threat?

I agree. The game isn't for just building things like Minecraft it is about surviving the zombie horde by building, crafting, looting and killing!

isn't that the point of the game, survive the zombies? How do you survive if you can't find a safe place to hole up?

You can but it is hard. They take a long time to brake through metal/concrete and you can make many walls and traps to keep them out. I can't wait to make a medieval keep with three walls around it a ditch and a moat. Towers in each corner and and the halfway point of each wall. I hope we can make barbed wire which we could put in ditches, on walls and on the ground which slows and hurts zombies and sometimes stops them completely.

I dont get it either. In Minecraft, if your house didn't stop monsters from coming in then building the house serves no point. I see no reason to secure a house if the zombies are going to sense you and then burst through the walls. I'm not clear on how the player is detected, but in the videos I've seen the players put deterrents at the entrances. Then they went up in the attic, but the zombies somehow knew where they were and eventually burst through the defenses. Its possible they made noise by crafting stuff or something, but it appeared in the videos that the zombies just knew where they were. Maybe this is simply supposed to be a tower defense game in an FPS disguise. If all the game is is gathering resources to lock down a shelter that will eventually be overrun, its not that fun.

Like mining in Minecraft. You dig to get iron, so you can build strong tools to find diamonds, so you can make even stronger tools to find more diamonds.

i saw, i think in both games, you can build a ditch and put in spikes to kill/hurt the zombies. what would be cool would be if they got stuck and couldn't move, like they did in The Walking Dead.

Using even basic Minecraft logic, it would be extremely easy to build a setup that zombies could not reach.
