The reason they are highlighting Iraq and not Afghanistan is because the effort in Afghanistan is unanimously accepted... and multiples fewer have lost their lives.

Whereas ... MANY think this administration rushed to war with Iraq with no frigging exit strategy or true understanding of what we were facing and now there are MORE THAN 700 loyal and respectable Americans DEAD because of this..

I think it brings to the forefront of our minds **Was IRAQ a necessary war?

*I also think they would have had this same show if Clinton was responsible for the deaths of 700+ American Soldiers

dahunan,

You are very astute. The reason they are airing the names of only the Iraqi dead is for personal gain. They use they fallen soldiers as tools in their war against the office that sent them to Iraq.

Whether or not they would have ever aired the show if Clinton was in office is pure speculation. They only grudgingly aired anything related to Clinton lying under oath. The coverage of Clintons action/lack of action in the Middle East was barely even a blurb.

ABC has merely demonstrated that it cares less for the men and women in Iraq than those in Afghanistan. Like I said, this airing helped not one soldier to survive, or accomplish their mission. It may have turned the public against supporting them though when they need it most.

How so? If anything it shows that we should let the Military run the war instead of the Politicians. The war was waged and won with the Military in command with less than 200 soldiers killed. Now that the Politicians have taken over and are running the occupation more than 500 Soldiers have died.

Where has the hammering of this administration been for there not being an investigation of why there were no WMDs when they said so. Not the WMDs, but WHY these claims were made. Either you know or don't. You might say you THINK you know, but these were declaritive statements of certainty. Clinton's blow job got no end of coverage, and yet with tens of thousands dead in a first strike war in a situation that has as yet to be justified from any known threat to the US, there is nothing. I don't know what the motivations of the press are, but I know the motivations of people here are to protect their president no matter what. Too bad you people care more about that BJ than the lives we took.

Can you credit how whacked a mind has to be to say that honoring the fallen by name will reduce support for the troops.

Well said WS

How quickly they forget wasting so much time and money over a stained dress.

So much for consenting adults in the U.S.

The thing Americans have to wake up from the brainwashing is that it was NeoCons Like Bob Barr and Newt Gingrich set the stage for the current state of brainwashing and that BJ spectacle. What a wonderful job those guys did brainwashing and Rush, Hannity and CAD & Co continuing to keep the spell strongly in place. A puppet could be on charge, oh wait....

I watched it. It was dignified. It was interesting to put a face and a name with those 500+ KIA. Every face that went by I wondered if I knew them somehow . . .

Now, as for the topic at-hand:

I firmly believe that when you try hide their bodies, hide their coffins behind stupid policies, try to keep their faces and names out of the press, try to suppress the real human cost of war -- then YOU are the ONLY one playing politics with our nation's dead soldiers.

These soldiers fell in battle, died from horrible wounds, in a foreign land, probably scared out of their wits in their final moments and all some people around here (and in the administration) want to do is sweep them under a rug and not talk about them. You sick f'ing bastards.

Not a very good imitation of a parrot. Parrot's always refer to themselves in the third person. Here, try this one:

And so you would hide them away, never give their names a chance to be read or their faces a chance to be seen? I've never heard these soldiers names before, hyped or unhyped, and watching Nightline was emotionally very difficult. No one is endlessly talking about them, nor was that the point.

You'd rather brush these men and women under the carpet, because it's easier to send someone off to war if you don't know their name or don't have to look them in the eye.

Well since alchemize thought it was cute to troll around cross-posting stupid crap ... I found a classic:

No you don't. You are an arrogant butt-hole who is so overstuffed with feelings of self-superiority that if somebody explained it to you clearly and unambiguously, you would continue to deny that possibility because your illusion of superiority is so central and vital to your phony persona and egomania. Alchemize minus prick equals nothing at all and you fear that more than anything. Sorry to have to seem to go ad hominem here, but it is the homo, in this case, that is the problem. Not to worry about that though because underneath and behind the asshole is a fabulous 'nothing' just like me. And if your actually do find the real meaning of your religion you will know it.

Hey I missed that one, thanks for bringing it to my attention :)

I love to see moonbeam lash out in hatred. He is such a hateful bigot hiding behind his "mirror" and his "truth", it doesn't take much to set him off. You can almost set your clock to it.

Actually, I'd like for each family to choose if they want their son or daughter's names/coffins/whatever are used. I don't think either the press or the administration should decide. I don't think the administration should "hide them" (although I disagree that is what they are doing), I don't think the press should earn ratings and advertising revenue off them either.

As far as looking them in the eye, I work with plenty of people in the reserves, several of whom already have been in Iraq. I know them.

I didn't watch it and if it weren't for the Tin Foil Hat Brigade whining about it being politically motivated I probably wouldn't have even been aware of it.

Well you're opinions are all well and good, but I know what is best for this country, and am more patriotic than anyone else here on this board. And I say the soldiers who have died serving their country can be honored by showing thier pictures.
