$7.50 for $15 Value — Wow! Apple iTunes Gift Card

I got this when I tried signing in

"This Connection is Untrusted

You have asked Firefox to connect
securely to onsale.com, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.
Normally, when you try to connect securely,
sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are
going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified.

What Should I Do?

If you usually connect to
this site without problems, this error could mean that someone is
trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn't continue.

Technical Details
onsale.com uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate is only valid for *.onsale.com

(Error code: ssl_error_bad_cert_domain)

I Understand the Risks

If you understand what's going on, you
can tell Firefox to start trusting this site's identification.
Even if you trust the site, this error could mean that someone is
tampering with your connection.
Don't add an exception unless
you know there's a good reason why this site doesn't use trusted identification."

If I get this site or connection is untrusted in Firefox, I don't go to that website. Simple as that. There are plenty of legitimate websites that don't trigger this message.

And some that sometimes do, especially early in the month, for some reason.

It looks like it's a simple SSL error. They probably registered it for any of their subdomains (www.onesale.com, blog.onesale, com, etc.) and you're viewing just onesale.com without a subdomain.

Still, that's poor programming and lazy on their part. That doesn't bode well in my book (I'm a web programmer).

The instructions after purchase were confusing, but I assumed I would get the cards in the mail. This has been confirmed by the e-mail I just received:

Hi [MotionMan],

Thank you for your recent purchase with OnSale, your best daily deal experience!

This is to inform you that the coupon you had previously received will only serve as a receipt of your purchase. You shall receive the actual iTunes gift card in 3-5 business days and will be sent to your credit card’s billing address. As for redemption, you can redeem the iTunes gift card at the iTunes website.

If you have any additional questions or clarifications, please do not hesitate to call us at 1-888-760-0300 or email customerservice@onsale.com.

I was not planning on installing OSX Lion on the release day (which should be coming up), so, any delay in receiving this card is not a big deal to me.

While this deal may be legit, you are effectively handing over your credit card number to a site whose admins were too incompetent to configure the SSL setup on their web server properly. I'll pass on that, thanks.

They are not going to get very far with the number I gave them 😉
