7.1 Speakers for PC and TV?

Hi all!

Recently my lovely Creative S750 Gigaworks subwoofer unit blew its fuse and kept doing that for every new fuse that I put in. I figured that there must be something wrong internally. Well, I had the speakers for 3 years now so I guess manufacturers warranty is not valid + the cost would be too high. I am planning to replace my unit with something more reliable but would prefer a 7.1 setup.

My PC also share the same room as my HDTV. I am wondering if there are any setups that could support PC 7.1 gaming + also double as a home theater system?

Is your room really big enough to warrant 7.1? Do you play a lot of 7.1 sources? Do you correctly place the 7 speakers? What is your budget? How much do you care about sound quality?

Hmmm , yeah my living room is quite big...well in my opinion anyway. It is around 12x10m...odd shape so thats an approximate.

I can settle for a 5.1 and am currently looking at Z-5500s. My budget is around £250.

I mainly play games and also listen to dvds and watch some blu-ray discs (via PS3 so using optical for audio if available).

Edit: I prefer clear sound without distortion and a good low range quality. I have Harman Kardon speakers in my car and I loved the clarity. S750 were great but the bass could be a bit trashy at times.

Unless you can bump up to a Onkyo HTiB such as the 5100 or the SR800 the Z-5500's are probably your best bet.
