Let me guess, you were the tattle-tale teacher's bitch in school weren't you?

No, but I didn't do stuff that I knew could get me busted.

Confiscated. Yes
Nice talkin' to by the principal. Yes
Suspended or taken to an alternative school. No

theres a difference between busted and suspended/recommended to go elsewhere. that's stupid.

confiscated, that's fine, even detention or Internal Suspension (IS), is okay, but come on, people need to lighten up, you can see girls in bikinis everyday at the beach.

They shouldn't have sent him to an alternative school, but the little sh!t shouldn't have brought the magazine to school in the first place.

Why not? It is just a damn magazine with girls in bathing suits.

Would your work allow you to sit back and read the SI during work time? Why do most workplaces ban certain "sites" and "images" from workers' computers? Why are people here always asking if pictures are "work safe"

Now think about that when it comes to a 6th grade class room. It's neither the time nor the place.

agreed

I said that he shouldn't have been suspended, and he should have gotten a nice talkin' too...

You live, you learn. Bet he won't do it again:D

The sad thing is that I think the teacher is actually offended moreso that she's trying to protect the "campus".

This is unreal. There's nothing that outrageous in a SI swimsuit edition that would call for this kid to be sent to another school. Sure it was inappropriate and warranted detention or at the most a day or two suspension which is pushing things. Talk about some prudes. If he had brought a Penthouse or Hustler with hardcore pictures he should have received harsher disciplinary action but I still do not think it's appropriate sending him to alternative school.

Exactly what I'd say. And 3 days' suspension?! WTF?! I agree that it's inappropriate just b/c it would be disruptive but why not just confiscate and give a detention?

This sounds like a more reasonable punishment.

I did that when I was in 6th grade. Except I never intended to take it out during school. Some of my bone headed friends took it out and the P.E. teacher took it up, he asked whos it was, and all fingers were pointed at me. I got it back a week later. Didnt get into any trouble for it.

So bringing a magazine from home gets you "busted" in 6th grade? Fuvcking retarded. I find it hard to believe you ever had a childhood NFS4, cause quite frankly, it seems like you have forgotten what its like to be young. :(

it wasnt nintendo power, it was a swimsuit edition of sports illustrated

i would imagine the 6th graders saying "look at those tits! man i think im getting wood!look, look! and that ass; man id hit that and come back for more!" or whatever 6th graders say -- and not reading a sports article about how players in most every popular sport are more than overpaid and how someone cant wait for baseball to start up again

NFS4, contratulations. This is the first time I've seen you be stupid on the forums. The fact that this is in the news shows that it's an outrageous punishment.

I went to a Christian school. In 6th grade, we brought Playboys to school. One kid in my class got caught with one.. It was thrown away and his parents were called. No big deal. Three days suspension, suggesting time at an alternate school, etc etc?! I mean.. what the hell is wrong with these people?

By 6th grade, the average kid has probby seen 50 R-rated movies, nude magazines, tons of porn on the Internet, etc..

On the other hand, maybe they should put the kid to death. Seriously.. that doesn't belong at school and he's probby corrupted countless other students. He should be tortured and publicly hanged.

Again, so? I don't know about you, but in 6th grade girls/women were one of my interests. You are missing the point: the punishment is far too severe. Alternative school cause he likes to look at half naked women? I think not, considering that is normal. All the school should have done was throw it away/give it to his parents and call them, explaining what their son had done. Let the parents deal with the punishment after that.

This makes my head hurt. Schools have gone crazy in the past seven or eight years. They wildly overreact, treat the children as little deviants just waiting to explode and kill people. There's a current of fear and supression that's running through this country and I'm worried it's going to lead to far worse things.

I mean come on; they were pictures of scantily clad women. That's IT. Sure, if he pulled it out during math class or something and was flipping through it, then take it away from him and give it back at the end of the day; MAYBE, if you feel the need to be a hardass, call the kids parents. But suggesting he needs to go to an "alternative" school? That's ludicrous. And actually suspending him for three days? FFS, it was a Swimsuit Edition, not a pipebomb. You can pick one up at any grocery store, and it's just the female form; this country is so uptight about things like this.
