An $82 premium is what you pay to destroy the 9550 and have a nice upgrade path for a couple years. i7 will have a lower TCO if you upgrade every 2-3 years. It's faster clock for clock in everything and in multi threaded apps it's no contest.

If you're ganna include rebates in prices then you can get a top of the line 775 mobo for ~$90 and 4GB RAM for ~$25 so there's an even bigger disparity in prices and a 920 won't destroy a 9550 but will beat it fairly handily. No point in trying to compare a 775 system to an i7 as they are two different things. No one will go i7 for bang for the buck. People will only go i7 if they can afford it.
