6990 + Core i3 - 2100

So I got a 6990 to use over the weekend. Ofcourse my CPU is hopelessly mismatched for it. I get 60% GPU usage on ultra settings in BF3 on Caspian border.

So for gigles what benches would you guys like to see out of this mismatched system. I'm not going to OC the 6990 has I don't think my PSU could handle it in AUSUM mode. I'm going to sleep now and will bench as much as I can tomorrow.

As a reference point I was getting 220fps+ in Dead Island on max settings with again 60% GPU usage on both GPU.

I also haven't noticed any microstutter. I don't know what it looks like so *shrug*. Also CFX is working fine in SC2, BF3, Dead island, Portal 2. thats all I've tried so far. Haven't had any driver issues yet. If all goes well. I might keep the card and throw an i5-3450 in this bad boy.

Not to shocked about the performance of the 6990 with the i3 2100.When i had my i3 2100 paired with a 2gb gtx560 at near ti specs,i noticed a slight bottleneck on BF3 which tells me a ti card at the least would be a waste for a i3.

When i switched over to a 2500k,the usage was always pinged 99% as with the i3 it would dip from time to time but at stock the gtx560 seemed to be fine for the most part with the i3 making it balanced.

How little? A single 670 will give you a better experience once overclocked. It will be far smoother for you. Are you getting for around $300, if so, then take it, otherwise no.

And you will need a good CPU as well.

My HPTC has an i3 2100. It, coupled with a 1 gig 6950 runs Bf3 pretty well with most settings cranked.

Skurge, The 6990 is an awesome card. You could really build on it. You will have to invest in more stuff though to go with it. PSU, and cooler after your CPU. The stock cooler isn't really adequate. If you don't want to do that, then something on 28nm would be a better choice.

I'm getting it for $150, we put on an AC Twin Turbo on the day I got it. So I didn't have to experience how poor the stock cooler is. I can sell my 6870, for about as much. Also, my friend in the next room has a gtx580 and it honestly doesn't feel any smoother. I guess I'm just slow? Yeah the CPU holder the card back, but it doesn't make any games unplayable. Will bench with this CPU and a new one later. I don't know if I should get the I5 or I7 ivy.

I thought you had a smaller PSU than that. That's not an awful power supply. It's just not a particularly efficient one.


Not sure if prices are comparable where you're at, but I'd consider the SILVERSTONE Strider Gold 850W if prices are about the same. YMMV.

It's a little more than the silent power, but looks like a better PSU. Will see I can get one here.

In Shogun 2 I get 70% usage max and about 60fps, when I zoom into battles I get about 20fps and GPU usage drops down to 30-40%. I don't have the witcher installed at the moment. Will bench it when I get a hold of it.

GPU usage dropped as low as 50%, I don't think it's CFX scaling since both GPUs had the same usage throughout.

My 980X clocked at 4.4GHz still bottlenecks my 2x6990s, so as you already know your cpu is the bottleneck. That which would be interesting to see though is bitcoin MHPS. You should get around 700MHPS total aboy 350MHPS per GPU. If yu are less than that then not only cpu, but the cpu controlled memory bus is the bottleneck.
