I currently own a 6950 Sapphire 2gb Toxic Edition unlocked to the 6970 bios. It is paired with a 965 BE @ 3.4 which is soon to be overclocked. 8gb of ram.

I am looking to be able to run seemingly more intensive games such as ARMA II and in specific the dayz mod.

If I did decide to upgrade, would it be more worth while to sell the 6950 if i could right now? And what would I want to buy around under 300 dollars?

Is there anything coming out soon that would be worth waiting for?

I have the HD6950 and i wouldn't upgrade lower than the HD7950, but at current prices that's a no go. I will wait for the next gen of cards.

An unlocked and slightly oced 6950 equals a stock 7850.

An oced 7850 is like 30% faster, an oced 7870 is like 40% faster. A stock 7950 is around 40-50% faster and an oced 7950 is 60-70% faster.

1. HD8000 series probably within 6 months.

2. HD7950 OC is the most reasonable upgrade for Arma II games at around $300. An overclocked 1150mhz 7950 > HD7970 GE, which is 60-70% faster than a 6970 in Arma II without AA.

3. Overclock the CPU to 3.8ghz if possible and next year upgrade to Haswell on a new socket 1150.

Anyone have any information on overclocking the Sapphire Toxic 6950? I know it comes overclocked stock. I had tried some very mild OCing without modifying anything but the speed on the stock fan, and I had nothing but instability... (I was monitoring temps)

Is this something I am going to need to invest in cooling for?
