I clicked this thread hoping to see a GTO being controlled by an iPod touch.. Its cool that he does that with the doors and whatnot.. But its still not controlling the car..

Still pretty neat though

If the car already had PW then the weight for that is there anyway, same for the top. The doors and trunk though he had to have added a lot of hardware to make them work via remote..

door poppers are pretty light, they're just little hydraulic solenoids. One on each side, and two for the trunk, that's all he probably added.

Most of the stuff is already in the car, it's just a bit of electronics and wiring to control them remotely.

Heh, yeah, just like LEXUS. I mean damn, at least Pontiac doesn't have people naming their kids "GTO," but you'll find a Lexus in just about damn near every trailer park!

I'm not really sure what your point is but GTO stands for "Gran Turismo Omologato" which is Italian for Grand Touring Homologated. In 1962 Ferrari gave that moniker to its gorgeous production car, built for race purpose, the 250 GTO, which has become one of the most sought after cars Ferrari ever made.

Pontiac just lifted it from Ferrari about 2 years later...which is lame.

No, my wife does. I drive a lowly Nissan...I have driven the new GTO though and wasn't overly impressed by it. The original GTO is a cool car but it just seems kind of lame that Pontiac lifted that moniker from Ferrari.

Well it wasn't like the originial GTO was much of a twisties car but it's mission was to give acceleration performance at a cheap price and it did that well enough and you've got to admit the "6 pack" carb setup had a certain badass mojo to it. The "GTO" naming was a just marketing ploy but hey, it worked..

Eh, not that impressed. Though I will admit that power doors, windows, etc. are tempting (and thus the ability to control them remotely), I don't think stuff like this belongs on a classic. The clunkiness is just part of the experience!

If this was on a newer Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, or something of that sort, I'd give it a thumbs up just for the "ok, you're officially a nerd" factor.
