<< however I refused to go until after X-Mas. So I ship out on the 26th. >>

Unless you can justify this, it's a quite dumb decision.
So you're sitting at home, celebrating the holidays, while your finger is quietly deteriorating. NOT cool at all.
You should've taken care of such things IMMEDIATELY. Every hour counts.

Exactly. It makes absolutely no sense to delay such a critical thing. Holidays will come every year. Your finger will not magically grow back.

GigaCluster, I agree w/ you, the faster you make it to the Doctor, the better, when I required stitches on my chin due to a skateboarding fall when I was a kid, the fact that I made it to a Doctor ASAP, made the large gash in my chin requiring two layers of stitches, heal quite well. The DR. told me that if I waited too long, the scar would be quite large, not the same as the possibility of losing a finger, but it just goes to show timing is key.

Well let me make a long story short. I talked to my doctor relative on her lunch. I will not say what was said because it can risk her job, but people seem to not be hopeful.

The nurse said there will be enough blood going through to keep what is in there 'alive', but there was already too much damaged beyond repair. From what files or whatever it was they sent to the Anchorage doctor. His face did not look all too much optomistic.

Just FYI, I am stitched up. The doctor did not work on me. The nurse mostly did, and a doctor in training...

Thank god you are going to be OK!

Sounds like you had quite a gash there. I know how you feel, I had 10 stitches in the bottom of my foot. (!)

<< my left index finger may need amputation >>

Oww, sorry to hear that. :( You may want to discuss leeches with your doctor. Those little buggers can save things like fingers by keeping blood circulating through the injured area.
