680i Motherboards which one?

Hey, i got my computer and now wating upon a motherboard, just cancelled an order with a company in australia (as i live here) due to sould out stock and re-considering my options.

I had originally attempted to go for the ASUS P5N32-E Sli PLUS but have been looking at the EVGA nforce 680i and wondered what peoples thoughts were on either one, I plan on SLi within the next 3 months hence the 680i and i will OC my E6400 in a few months so ??? or what other boards should I look for

I am by no means an expert on computers but I have done a lot of reading on various motherboards, technologies, etc.

Here is what I have learned. Most if not all of the 680i mobos on the market right now seem to have some problems. EVGA seems to be having a bunch of problems with memory getting fried due to the board outputting more voltage than the memory can handle - at leat that is what I understand. The Asus boards seem to be better but very finicky on the RAM that they will accept. Abit just launched a new board I9 Max or something but it is new and priced over $300. No thanks.

I was originally set on buying an SLI based system but I have just seen too many problems. As with anything, I am sure there are a bunch of satisfied owners of 680i boards out there and we are only going to hear about the problems but there seem to be enough problems to give me pause.

Afer dropping SLI, I have now decided on the Asus P5B Deluxe which is based on the 965 Intel chipset and recommended in the sticky at the begining of this forum. The board supports Crossfire should you decide to use dual graphic cards. Price is pretty good too at about $180.

Good luck. I would suggest you check out the forums at EVGA to see what the community is talking about with specific regard to the EVGA 680 board and SLI in general.

I too, am looking to upgrade soon and the problems first associated with the 680i boards have given me pause. However, the new ASUS P5N32-E SLI Plus is very interesting as it is a hybrid chipset (650i Northbridge paired with the 590 Southbridge) and has 95%+ of all the capabilities of the ASUS Striker Extreme (same PCB as well) for half the price.

I am eagerly awaiting the Anandtech review of the board...hope it comes soon. I also hope this solution avoids the early pitfalls of the 680i boards.

Another option for you is the ASUS P5N32-SLI Premium nForce 590 SLI. Not a 600 series Nvidia chipset, but pretty good all the same. PCSTATS.com did a very recent review: http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=2076
