Why not the 750i FTW for ~ same price?

If it is between 680 and 780, well then 780 all the way.

The 680i was a dream when I used a E6600 and never gave me an issue for 9 months of operation. When I upgraded to Q6600 that board failed on me 6 times to the point that I run it stock in a htpc in a bedroom. Funny thing it failed at stock playing movies and tv for the sixth time. I would go with the 750 or the 780 since they did update the board a bit and made it 45NM quad ready if you ever come across something cheap.

If you do get the 680i reapply all hsf TIM and if you plan on ever going quad put a HR05sli on the NB and SB or at least a HR05 on the NB and a VCRE on the SB.

I would not consider paying more than $80 for a used 680i board.

OP lives in the Caribbean,so prices are different.

Kraeoss, how much more is the 780i? I don't believe the 680i supports Yorkfield, as an FYI.

Yes, a good 550w PSU will run 2x 8800gt.

hrmmm.... facing impending monitor doom lol so i guess i'll forget the board and just get a new monitor and card..... dang

Bummer.

Why would you need to get a new monitor AND new card?

well the plan was to get the board and another 8800 for cheap (basically take the sli rig the guy had) but now with that the 1k tt$ for the board will have to be spent for the monitor unless i can fix it.... symptoms of the monitor are the display keeps clicking and changing from 1024*768 to a smaller size then sometimes begins to wobble lol... then gets normal for like 1/2 hr then it's back to the same behaviour.... anyone know how i can fix this tell me please i'll make a thread in the video room.
